I believe he is correct in his preaching. But this also is devastating to me as someone who questions their salvation because of my indwelling sin. I do believe that Christ sacrifice is sufficient. But it raises the question in my heart “ does it apply to me”??? My sinful nature constantly condemns me. I am sin. Not just the sins I actually commit. If our salvation is based on our ability to not sin along with believing on Christ, then who can be saved ???? Where is the line drawn of being saved by Grace through Faith and our surrendering to Lordship salvation?? Btw; Im pretty sure the only two things RC and JM didnt see eye to eye on was baby baptism and eschatology which are not salvific topics. Pastor MacArthur is a brilliant Apologist, a defender of the Faith as it is in Jesus. And I respect and appreciate his ministry. I would differ with him on the subject of an Eternally Burning Hell. The incineration of all traces of sin takes place on this planet. This earth is then recreated on the ASHES. Malachi 4:1-3 and Revelation 21:1-3. Mr MacArthur is a stranger to truth. I wondered for years how some men, like John, could claim doctorates when their understanding of scripture was poor. Now we know. John is President of Masters University in Santa Clarita, CA. Last year the Western Association of Schools and Colleges found the institution in violation of multiple standards of accreditation, including competing loyalties among its board of directors, a lack of operational integrity, and a pattern of unethical treatment among faculty and staff. The visiting accreditation team observed - and received reports of - a climate of fear, intimidation, bullying, and uncertainty among significant numbers of faculty and staff. WASC stated its "extreme concern" that the university might be in violation of required reporting responsibilities under the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The university has less than two years to remedy the perceived problems and avoid withdrawal of its accreditation.

Yes they do love Christ,. That is, the Christ they have made up, the Christ who shares His glory with the Pope. The Christ who is so limp that He needs a stand-in on Earth to head His church. The catholic Jesus who can be talked into a decision by His mother. A mama's boy Jesus. Yeah, catholics even sacrifice Jesus every weekend because Jesus is so limp that His blood on the cross was not quite sufficient to save our souls, the first time. There is so much more. I am convinced that it's not that catholics don't read the Bible. The problem is that catholics don't read their catholic catechism book, which is very thick and uses language which can be confusing and is truly ANTI- Gospel. So read their catechism and compare it to God's Holy Words and you will find that there is no likeness but using the name of Jesus.

The consecrated host is the real body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ under the mere appearance of bread and wine. It is the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It is a central tenet of Catholicism and also believed by some Protestants. It is a matter of faith and not idolatry. Much has been written on the true presence, such as by Scott Hahn and Bishop Baron, which you might want to check out. Suggesting that we just worship a piece of bread is offensive to me, but you are certainly welcome to your opinion. I may have overreacted a bit. My apologies. God Bless

I know in the 90's that DTS did wander some. I even cancelled my Bibsac subscription. But all the DTS profs I sat under had none of the issues of which John is here referring to. I do think there was some misunderstanding. A close friend and PhD grad, one of his thesis (don't remember which one) was written against the Lordship Salvation issue. When I read what he wrote I came away thinking he had completely misunderstood John's teachings. Vocabulary properly defined and explained cannot be overly emphasized. To this day, Mt7:23 is still the most terrifying passage in all of scripture. I'm a Reformed Dispensationalist.

But are some who never heard the name of Jesus during their lifetimes saved? Abso-hallelujah-lutely. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Job, Noah, Enoch, Moses, Elijah, ..... Will this extend to Gentiles, too? Yes, that seems to be exactly what Romans 1 and 2 are saying and Noah, Enoch, Job, Melchizedek, Ruth, Rahab, .... 2 Corinthians 2:14 and 15 tells us that Jesus died for all, not just those who happened to hear His name during their lifetimes. Yes, it also says that only those who believed will be saved, but He didn't die for all unless all could choose to be saved. Our God is full of grace and mercy because He has given every sinful man an opportunity for redemption, an opportunity for salvation. Jesus died for the sins of every single person so that all are "without excuse" when standing before the Creator to face a final judgment.

Your 2nd premise in your 1st paragraph is incorrect. Old testament believers believed God's promises, and God's promise in the OT centers around the coming Savior. God preached the gospel to Abraham, and Abraham "believed God." Abraham believed God's promise, which pointed to the Seed that was to come into the world. This is further explained in Galatians 3:16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. Esv Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Kjv God saves everyone the same way. Now you could say they didnt fully understand everything that Jesus would do. I would say correct-a-mundo! I would then ask you, do you fully understand everything there is to be known about Jesus and what He did and what He is still doing. Hopefully you would say no if youre an honest man. Remember, we are not saved by possessing vast knowledge, we are saved by a Person, Jesus Christ. This is why God is able to save children, because ultimately its not knowledge (since children wont know a lot about Jesus) but faith in what has currently been revealed concerning Christ.

My versions (NASB, ESV, NKJV, HCSB, ASV, CWSB, DBY, & YLT) say "promises," where the original Greek "epaggelia" means promise, message, assurance, announcement, a promised good or blessing. I agree that God's biggest covenant promise in the OT was the promise of a coming Savior and King, but I am missing the evidence that supports that *all* OT saints knew of the death, burial, and resurrection of this Savior when even the 12 were completely blown away by it (and the 12 had been told far more explicitly, over and over and over).

@@EllenSmyth Some teach Isaac was a type of Jesus Christ. His birth was miraculous and Abraham only had the one Son with Sarah. Isaac was the Seed of Promise. God told Abraham He would make him a great nation, so when Isaac was to be sacrificed, Abraham had to believe God would raise him from the dead. John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus was the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. We know the Jews were expecting their Messiah to arrive as a king. Isaiah seems to reference Jesus as a Suffering Servant. Ruth is the story of a Kinsman Redeemer. Boaz is related to Ruth's mother-in -law, Naomi. He redeems the land belonging Naomi's husband and marries Ruth, a Moabitiss. Apparently, the transaction was very costly because Ruth came from a cursed nation. Moab treated the nation of Israel harshly when He was trying to enter the promised land. So, God brought a curse on the nation to the 10th generation. This is a picture of Jesus Redeeming the Gentile Church. The Church was a mystery to the Old Testament Saints. Jesus came for the house of Israel. The majority didn't receive Him. AND Ruth is in the genealogy of Jesus Christ!

God had and still has a saving covenant for Israel even though Jesus is the only way to the Father. And even though I do not know all of the details, I know that God is nothing if not a keeper of His word. The gospel is this: that he died according to the scriptures, he was buried, and he rose again according to the scriptures. And yet the 12 and Mary (Mother to Jesus) and Mary Magdalene and every other believing Jew to my knowledge was absolutely shocked by Jesus's resurrection. Were the apostles not saved before they knew of the resurrection? What about Mary and Mary Magdalene? In Leviticus 4 and Numbers 15, Moses writes about the sacrifices for the Sins of Ignorance. "Sin through ignorance brings to our attention another side of God's justice and His absolute fairness in dealing with man. God will deal with man in equity. There will be degrees of punishment as there will be degrees of rewards." (Dr. J. Vernon McGee) I believe the Lord will hold us accountable for what we know. For those who never heard the name "Jesus" or the gospel (Good News of a Savior reconciling sinners to a Righteous and Holy God), Jesus is their provision for the Sins of Ignorance. This is why we believer children who die in infancy or before the Age of Accountability are with the Lord. They are ignorant of their condition. Still, Jesus commissioned his followers to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. We are held accountable for what we know. To whom much is given, much is required. With Privilege comes Responsibility. I know I am privileged to have a Savior, the Word of God and the Liberty to Worship and Tell Others of the Hope I have in Jesus. It's hard to believe how all (except one) of the "ivy-league" colleges started out as fundamental Christian schools. Look where we are today. Frankfurt School liberalism has entered every aspect of society, which includes "seminaries". I believe this has contributed most to minimize believer's core beliefs and their distorted Christian Worldview. Unbelievable how many ministers will not preach the truth. In the last EVANGELICAL PCA church that I belonged to the minister could not even take a stand on the age of the earth and evolution. That was it for me. I now meet with 8 other believing families in a home. I am so thankful for John MacArthur. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. It says in the Koran that Allah is the supreme deceiver. In Scripture, it says that Satan is the father of lies. This sounds like the same entity. That would mean that Allah is Satan....not Jehovah.

I can learn a bit more. But at least I know that God is the one who “gives to each one a measure of faith.” And Ephesians 2:19 and Romans 8:32 are both in agreement that faith is a gift, and grace “has been given” unto you. Listen to scriptures such as “He who began a good work in you”…, where it is says that it is “God who wills and to do of his good pleasure.” in us. If he begins the process, and he tells the Galatians “Having begun in the spirit, are you now being perfected (or we would say in modern English SANCTIFIED) by the flesh ? ( by works? By something they have done? ) He even calls it “bewitched” (so belief that we finish Salvation) even though it is God who begins a good work in us is called what? Witchcraft! A lie of the devil or mystery Babylon. We are told to “come out of her, my people, and God will accept you as a Father. Basically, you cannot have true peace while believing that you must do something to be saved. “You shall call his name “Yeshuah” (modern day Jesus) for HE shall save his people from their sin.” Remember too, our condition before we were born from above is what? Lost (not knowing our way) “ALL we like sheep have gone astray, each to his own way (not God's way) and God has laid on HIM the iniquities of US ALL.” We were blinded “by the God of this world.” (Can’t even see our way to know which way is home to Father God.) “There is none who seek after God)” even though God tells us to “Seek the Lord while he may be found.” And he “stands at the door and knocks.” And if anyone opens the door.” Etc. Is God basically telling us we won’t even open the door of our heart unless he cleanses us first? Opens our blind eyes so we can see? Etc. And yet he tells us “not of works (any righteous deed we would DO is a work) lest any man should boast.” Which is mentioned Ephesians 2:8-9. Also, “Believe on the Lord…and you SHALL be saved.” Is Peter's understanding at the time. The Book of Acts itself is a transitional book, taking the law keeping (actually law-breaking) Jews into the kingdom. So, there is a huge jump in theology of Peter up until Paul’s revelation that “Jew and Gentile are both justified by faith.” .. and that by grace (a free gift of God) are we saved through ( or by means of coming to) faith, which Christ also gives.. “It has been granted unto you, on behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but to suffer…” (Granted : given as a grace gift) He “gives to each one a measure of faith.” All this is to say that until the spirit draws us, we CANNOT come to Christ, which scriptures indicate. We are under God’s wrath and Love. “It is God’s kindness that leads us to metanoia ( often translated as repentance).” Imagine our own kindness getting us to change our mind, all because WE wanted to be kind to ourselves... so that we would not wind up in torment. We were also “dead in trespasses and sins.” You hath he quickened" (made alive to God.) Who did it? Do you need to read all of Ephesians and Galatians and Colossians, along with Romans to get Paul’s message? God led him to faith, gave him a Damascus road experience, (who was it that initiated that encounter? ) and he said that he is an “example for those that would believe “ in the Lord. So what other verses do you have for me to learn about this grace that has been given to us? (We could also look back to the “Father of faith” and wonder how in the world did Abraham come to know and trust in the Living God, when he came from UR where many worshipped idols. Laban his relative later in Jacob’s time is seen running after Jacob and Leah sat on the idols, hidden under her pregnancy excuse for resting on them. So our Old Testament example was commended for showing forth the faith that had been given to him (and he was called righteous) as a result of God’s intervention and initiating an encounter with Abraham. Then Paul is our example in the New testament of coming to faith by Christ striking him down and speaking to him. Notice how God uses man to get the word to Paul. In Abraham’s time God had to start with him and then he could share good news with the others in his family. Somehow he convinced others such as Lot to come along to Canaan. Faith comes how? By hearing… and usually it is hearing through a man’s speaking or occasionally by an angel. “God was in Christ, reconciling the WORLD to himself, not counting men’s sins against them. And God has given to us this ministry of reconciliation…” he desires us to be fishers of men and help drag the catch of fish in. “And I, if I be lifted up (exalted) from the Earth, shall Helkuo ( Greek word for drag/ draw) ALL unto me.” (Some versions have “ALL men” but man is added for emphasis only. He will draw by means of the spirit of God, and “He shall baptize (bring you into a close identification with) you with Holy Spirit ( Greek word EN means “by use of or by means of ) the spirit) and with fire.” What part of the gift of God’s grace comes from us? 0.0000001 % ? Just a teeny tiny repentance or confession or belief or asking, etc??? Well if we help to prepare our own gift, wouldn’t that spoil the gift for the one who wants ALL the glory? Thoughts?
