Helpful words from an aging pastor. Particularly difficult as he is speaking about a friend. But his love for the Lord Jesus compels him to speak truth. There is a strong reminder for us all to be careful (1 Corinthians 10: 12). Satan knows our strengths and weakness. Men in pastoral ministry need to be prayed for. Satan knows how to flatter and to grow pride - such things go ahead of infidelity. Infidelity never comes alone. God's grace and mercy be with Steve Lawson - granting him the beauty of repentance, and be with his family. God grace be with us all.

Without monitoring ourselves, all of us can fall like Steve Lawson (but our fall isn’t beyond what Christ can redeem us from). But man, this was highly unexpected. And I do wonder what was in Steve Lawsons head while he preached with this affair going on. He preached heavy conviction. I’m just wondering what was in his head. What psychological activity was going on?

Steve Lawson is done in his former circle To me is she was a child even at 20-25 Legal age but Steve has grandchildren her age His (Steve) Children are in their forties I'm baffled by it

Incorrect, Smyrna was/is not done. Jesus simply said that their faith was to be tested by the devil. Jesus will offer them the crown of life if they were to remain faithful even unto death.

The real question to answer would be; now that Lawson doesn't have the works to prove it, as they say you must have, does MacArthur believe he is saved? There was unfortunately only crickets, as far as that's concerned.

Perfect example of the misunderstanding so many have regarding what MacArthur teaches! They do not promote a works based gospel. In the video…he calls him a dear friend and does to allude to the possibility of him not being saved. Just that it has bewildered him how he could go so long without godly repentance. Perhaps Steve Lawson should examine himself! (2 Cor.13:5-6). If it is possible for someone like him to have all the head knowledge and not have the spirit….

It is they who profess that such sin is an indication of 'false', 'unsaving' faith. Lawson is on the record saying that Christians who masturbate should be concerned about whether they do actually have saving faith. That's their standpoint, not mine. Are you guys really unaware of all this stuff..?

If God was purifying the church it would mean Steve Lawson had free will and was choosing to do what he did of his own free will. And what if he did commit the transgression but is still among the chosen wouldn't you be judging him for what he had no control over?

MacArthur makes some good points while ignoring "the elephant in the room" - he doesn't just come right out and declare Lawson unsaved, something that his false doctrine of "Lordship salvation" requires him and his fellow doctrinaires to do. [The slow-walking and eerie silence shows Lawson's behavior puts the lie to this anthropocentric/works-based teaching.] MacArthur has made statements like: "MUST yield to Christ;" "CAN'T be saved if cling to sin;" "one who rejects Christ's authority in his life does NOT have saving faith."

What he states is those things are a result of regeneration, not that you must do so prior to be saved.
