I love macarthur,my family attended grace community church during the 70s and 80s and he is a top minister no doubt!!! im involved with cr and have been blessed with attending cr summit conventions @ saddleback church and weekly celebrate recovery meetings as well, and its my belief that rick warren is an amazing man of god as well. and i can tell you all, this man has the most amazing heart and love for saints that need recovery right here right now, people hurting and suffering all over the world from all sorts of hurts,habits and hang ups and rick and john baker meet them right where they are at and minister from there! this cr ministry is gods work and he has the right people behind it so take it down a few notches people and go after some real issues if you must!!! @shyjoesam You are wrong in your comment. The Bible is perfectly clear. It states that believers are to judge other believers and not tolerate sin in the Church. We are not to judge unbelievers, we are to witness to them. The Apostle Paul tells us we cannot tolerate sin within the Church.

Well if you are able to see above john macArther you have no problem. He is a man but look at God and then you will see the truth. John is not telling you to follow him but follow God!

What amazes me is i read everybody's comments and all those that sound off about John Macarthur and How he's this and that and a downer and judgemental doesn't even understand that he never mentions Rick or the stupid book. It's this guy that has a radio program that's addressing the book the purpose driven life with a SERMON by John Macarthur!! Really? The anger if you have any should be directed at who put this together not John. Second all these people that say he should stick to the bible??? Have you listened to what is said in this sermon? It's nothing but scripture with a little commentary. Pretty clear what the Word of God says. I believe one person pulled out the "judge not" card...that who is he to judge rick when God tells us to do exactly that almost directly after He says "judge not" Maybe you ought to read the whole chapter and not just the parts you like and agree with. Stop throwing that card out too cause it's taken WAAAYYY out of context! It says in MANY places to judge other pastors to see if they are telling the truth which rick is not period! For those that are wanting this all tolerant anything goes God better read the whole bible. This is no joke. He's coming and it's a day of wrath. The bible is warning FILLED!!! The apostle Paul said test yourselves to see if you are in the faith. How do you test yourselves? the questions to ask yourself are in there too! There is a reason why he said this. You can't just SAY you believe. How do you know? Ever ask that question. There are marks of a true Christian. Do you have them? Please consider this. It's eternal life we are talking about.

the book is not stupid, but I agree with you Macarthur doesn't mention it. I was a pastor for twenty years and believe the book has a lot of good pastoral wisdom in it.

chris hobeck, you draw a false dichotomy here in my opinion. "the purpose driven life" isn't about "mere personal fulfillment." It's about living your life according to God's design revealed in Scripture, honoring christ, worshiping Christ, living in relationship with others who do the same and reaching out to the world around you that ad of yet does not do that for the purpose of glorifying God. "the [purpose driven life"( as an idea from Rick warren is not emergent) it is similar to systematic theology and delving deeper into explaining the first question and answer of the Westminster confession of faith: What is the chief end of man? A: Man's chief end is to glorify God,1 and to enjoy him forever. how do I glorify God?"the purpose drivern life fleshes this out as follows: - focus your life centrally on following Christ 2 seek to live life as worship of Christ 3. live in community with others who are focused on following Christ and sharing the Gospel in the world. there is nothing wrong with any of that and anyone who says there is is simply nirt picking and should focus more on the Gospel itself.

the problem is, he's right in his analysis on Warren but Macarthur himself believes you can take the mark of the beast and still be saved, as well as him waging war on the Charismatic Church instead of the weird sectors of it. Spiritual gifts and anointings are biblical. but not the freaky disorder and almost possession looking stuff but he's throwing all pentecost in the same basket.

"Revelation 14:9-11 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand," "if any man WORSHIP the beast and his image, and receive his mark" it seems to me that the focus in this statement is the worship of the beast. i say this because of this scripture: Matthew 12:31-32 31. Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven man. 32. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him" You're gonna have to explain that one to me. Denial of the Holy Spirit's work in your life is the only way to not be forgiven from what i've read. I would like to know if John MacArthur says that you can be saved after worshiping the beast. The only way to not get salvation is to deny the Christ. Also next time try just posting the relevant bible verses so I dont have to read for 5 minutes just to sift through all the other verses that had no need to be there.

11 years ago Friel called Rick Warren out on an incomplete bible, now it appears because MacArthur has been partnering up with Warren, Friel defends Warren's theology, mentioning the parts Warren has correct to excuse his false heretical beliefs. The gospel hasn't changed, Rick Warren hasn't tightened up his doctrine, if anything it's gotten far more ecumenical... so what's different now from 11 years ago Todd?

all of you here's the main issue here: if the "author" of this clip pits MacArthur against the purpose driven life (Rick warren)that is his distinction not MacArthur's and he likely does it to get attention from many because these two men( MacArthur and Warren) have an incredible number of supporters, but a catch is they are on the same team(jesus' team). therefore be careful lest you create a division where there is not one. I absolutely hate this tactic as I'm sure God does as well.

I've read Rick Warren's books & watched his videos. I'm inspired by his testimony. I love the book Purpose driven life. John MacArthur takes other people's words and uses them out of context. He's so negative. He's a downer to me. He calls some pastors Satanists. Who is he to judge? Why not focus on the Bible and not on slamming others? Why does he not seem to remember the verse that we are not to judge? I'm so amazed by this guys teachings.
