Take action on climate change at countdown.ted.com.
Which sounds more urgent: "global warming" or "pollution blanket overheating planet"? In this actionable talk, communications strategist John Marshall explains why we need to rethink how we talk about climate change -- and offers small but mighty language adjustments to get people to more intuitively understand and care about this existential threat.
Countdown is TED's global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at countdown.ted....

If you want to help slow down anthropogenic climate change, here are some ways you can do so for free. TreeApp, an app that plants trees on your behalf every day. All you have to do is watch a 30 second advert. Tribaldata, an app that sells data. You can plant a tree every time you earn enough points. Both apps work on smartphones and tablets. Ecosia, a search engine just like Google, but all it's profits go to planting trees. Thenonprofits, a website with links to click to donate. @@carolgibson-wilson4354 I mean yeah it is cause for concern, but only for those who have the privilege to be concern about it. Poverty, hunger, wars, are much more imminent issues for those suffering from it than climate change, we should strive for a more rich and prosperous society so that people can have the luxury to be concern about climate change. Witch by the way is what is happening, people in extreme poverty have been declining year after year. Thanks to the also declining costs in production. To pass laws obliging certain energy matrixes, forcing electric vehicles, taxing carbon emitting industries will only make it more difficult for those who can't afford the increased cost that such measures imply. The planet must be preserved and looked for, I just think that more specifically this kind of measures, that people usually associate with climate change, do more harm than good in the end.

Humans emit roughly 6 Gts of CO2 whereas forests sequester around 100 Gts. Man has reduced forests by 50% over the last 100 years so by my calculation we have added roughly 50Gts extra CO2 per year to the atmosphere. Besides that, the reality is the biggest cause of CO2 is having children. The "science" says that having a child results in much more CO2 than driving cars, burning fossil fuels, etc. The fact is that no matter what we do with regards to cutting our emissions, this will be offset by population growth.
@Pete--
@Pete-- 3 жыл бұрын
This is very malthusian. You're assuming population growth will continue indefinitely, and the fact is we don't actually know that to be the case. In the first world, many countries are actually slowing to replacement levels (or below in a few countries) due to education and changing social systems. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do think that if humanity were to actually allocate resources and try to raise the quality of life and educational standards worldwide, population growth might slow. No reason to be so fatalistic, you can allow yourself a little hope, lol.

Should we listen to opposing science? What if climatologists provide evidence that the climate is changing due to cyclic solar activity and galactic radiation? What if they say industrialization is the minimal cause and that it coincided with a natural planetary change that makes our footprint seem worse than it really is. Or should we blacklist these climatologist and hide their message? Should we tell NASA's top Climatologist that he's wrong? It's us driving cars and stuff. Yes, lets bury our heads and just say, "industrialization bad", "people bad", but not China or India, the world's largest polluters. Nope, it those pesky American capitalists.
