This was my grandfather's favorite poem. He passed away in 2009 but I know that he would have loved this. Thank you for doing such beautiful justice to Masefield's timeless lyrics.

Very nice indeed , Michael! One of my favourite poems, and you`ve done it so tastefully. A gentle, almost sad tone which fits so well to the poem. Thank you. (Denmark)

Your song is wonderful. You have really captured the narrator's yearning for a sailor's life. I have a blog where I review out of copyright books and old poems. I am planning on posting something about this poem soon. Do you mind if I add a link on my blog to this video?

Thanks so much. I'm learning the John Ireland version for baritone and piano accompaniment. This is very different, but lovely - you have a nice voice, a clever accompaniment and your guitar sonority - I don't know the make - is particularly pleasing.

Sea Fever (John Meinsfield) I MUST go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by, And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking, And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

WOW! Michael. I too know this poem, in many musical guises. Your technique is so refined and calm. I notice from the comments a lot of people ask for the score/chords. Have you written it down? Would very much like to score it for you, if you haven't. Beautifully created and performed, chap. G
