This is my all-time favorite John Mayall tune, just him on organ & a drummer. I love how you can hear the bass pedal squeak on the drum kit. I bought this on vinyl in the 70's, & still have it.

This song is from beyond - just flat-out awesome! First time I heard it in 1969 I was touched and it's been a special top fave since. He hit a rarely visited place where music and emotion intertwine with the mind, body and soul. Gives me the chills!

I'm 67 years old now, but in the autumn of 1968 this song evoked many tears because it's when I fell in love and, fortunately, the girl I fell in love with and I are still together. My eyes are watering now as I listen to it again. One of the best love songs ever written.

I am now fast approaching 70 years old and my thoughts about this song are exactly the same. Thank you, Maureen, for the last 54 years.

Used to play this at uni in the late 60's, was on the "Blues Alone" album. Loved John Mayall and all the great blues music that came out in that era. We seem to have lost our way in the mid 70's with Glam Rock and Punk, and now what have we, yes, rap and Simon Cowell and the X Factor. I am so glad i lived in an era where musicians lived for their music and not for the fame and amount of money they could make. How many of you X Factor lot will still be performing live at 76, not many

I'm now 70 years old and I still love this track after 50 of them...I was fortunate to have spent two nights with him in the early 80's as his personal security on his tour of Australia....😎

Superb song, one of his best (after California and So Hard To Share - Turning Point lp, 1969)! I saw JM last year, live in our local theatre in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I missed an opportunity to see him in London in 2008. I never imagined I would see him again in NZ, little alone in a provincial city of 80,000 population. Before the show John was out the front signing CD's, - not a security guard in sight! What a humble, down to earth gentleman!

I used to love the Bluesbreaker sound when John played a proper Hammond, which, as we all know, gives everyone something to play off. This has taken me back to the Corn exchange in Bristol all those years ago Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

If I'm not mistaken, the album was called 'Blues Alone' because every instrument and vocal was John himself ...

If you don't have the album "Blues Alone", you are missing some of John's best and early works. At 19, listening to 8 tracks, this was one of my favorite albums. He told it like it was.

It wasn't a Hammond B3 but an M100 and I think a 147 leslie because of the clicking sound when John was switching the speed.

Somebody broke your wings Little bird, you can't fly Somebody hurt you bad Beaten down, and left to cry And the price you have to pay You'll be paying in years of your life Somebody is to blame Can't you see, I'm feeling sad Somebody got away And it makes me feel sad And the price you have to pay You'll be paying in years of your life Somebody gotta help you I believe, I love you so Somebody's gonna touch you I don't believe I'll let you go And the love I have to give I'll be giving in years of my life And the love I have to give I'll be giving in years of my life
