I'll feel like a fool if this is explained further along in the reaction, but the meaning behind this song is quite amazing. He wrote this kind of as a sequel to City Love which was released on Room for Squares, and it's his break up song with "Lydia". But this one was written just after 9/11 while John was living in NYC. When you dive deep into the lyrics knowing that background, the lyrics are absolutely chilling. Go reread the lyrics and put yourself in New York City from late 2001-2002, and goosebumps abound. Then you add in a 5+ minute soul wrenching technically masterful guitar solo in the mix...and it should be easy to see why this is my favorite performance of his of all-time.
