26.10.13 John Mayer World Tour London Wembley. Last show in Europe on this tour!
Easily my favourite performance of the night. The solo is special!!!!!!!!!

His solos have the storytelling, melodic quality of Warren Hayes, the ease of Eric Clapton, the fury of Jimi Hendrix and the tone and the right hand of SRV. That alone would make him one of the best, but he also has this amazing ability to both take solos in creative and unexpected places and a brilliant ear for building chords with his arrangements and using that structure to enhance his solos. He's just my favorite guitarist.

Many people don't realise that playing such improvised solos on the spot just according to the feel of the moment is a result of more than a decade of dedicated practise. Pure talent here. Honestly never heard anyone play that beautifully ever. Wouldn't be shocked if no such player emerges for a long time.

I hate how so many people underestimate John as a person and musician, I truly love all his music and am dedicated to spending 34 grand on equipment to sound like John, not to be the next John Mayer, but I just love his music and his tone and style of playing, I'm invested in to replicating his tone and learning from it. I'm honestly not a great guitar player, I know a few chords and some Mayer songs, but I truly look up to John and he is without a doubt my idol. God Bless John Clayton Mayer. He's truly inspired me in many of his covers and his written stuff.
@daliksheppy
@daliksheppy 10 жыл бұрын
34 grand? you could probably get the tone for 1/4 that tbh. a lot of mayers rig is expensive because he has a lot of stuff he doesnt use too often or just on one song. as well as tens of guitars and stuff. i reckon you could get this tone for a lot less than you anticipate. if you were to take the tone on tour, then yeah, probably cost more. lets not forget a lot of the tone comes from the fingers
@salvatorej.quaglieri7792
@salvatorej.quaglieri7792 10 жыл бұрын
That is true, I priced out and $20000 is on guitars alone, one of the Martin guitars is $8000 and the other Martin is $3300, so basically the Two Rock, the cabinet and the pedals is whats costing me the most. The pedals only add up to about $4600 The amp along with the cabinet and power systems is $8500

There ain´t much complication on playing the blues, like some would say. As much as there ain´t much fuss on being and feeling hurt. Shit just happens. Still, i prefer guitar players that express, rather than impress... IMO, you could say this solo (this particular solo) is the material tears are made of.
@BradleyTn20
@BradleyTn20 10 жыл бұрын
I couldn't have said that better myself. I understand that shredding takes skill and alot of practice. However, it has always struck me as a little bit useless and unimpressive except to those who wish they could shred and those who don't play guitar at all. I doubt a metal/shredding solo has ever pulled at someone's heart just by hearing it. The feeling that I'm talking about is one that's a beautiful thing that only music can give. I always kind of thought that is what music is SUPPOSED to do, right? Is that not where the beauty lies? I am sure this will sound really weird or over-thinking things to some people. However, I bet it will be the people who have never experienced it.
@ricardoslhenriques
@ricardoslhenriques 10 жыл бұрын
Bradley Smith Thats is 100% correct, man. Been playing guitar for almost 15 years, and this little piece of truth has become plain and simple to me. Shredding is just about dumping technique. Dont get me wrong, it takes effort, but has no "feel" to it. Things should "click" inside. Take Clapton. One would rapidly go thinking about what made this guy a Guitar God, if one only wonders about technique. But then you hear the solo on "It´s probably me"... and then you get it. At least, that is what happened to me. Respect to shredders... Love to simple open-hearted guitar players.

I don’t get the people that refuse to recognize his talent. You don’t have to like his pop hits but just because he has pop hits doesn’t mean he isn’t an amazing musician. Miley Cyrus is an amazing singer but most think she’s trash because her hits are stupid pop songs but she can actually sing if you watch her do covers. These artists get underrated because their hits are basic pop songs

These extended solos, in songs like this, or Gravity, or I Don't Trust Myself and many others songs that he takes as oportunities to explode to their maximum level have certain qualities that you could find in every each and one of them, they're all different, they're all great, and they share an eerieness, sadness, and so much emotional charge it seems almost unveliebable that a man could construct such a sequence of notes in that order to achieve what he does. This man tells stories without saying a single word, and then he starts singing, and takes them to another level, and then, he staples a climax based on just sounds, not words. Amazing.

I see many of the comments here are trying to compare John Mayer with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and so on. This becomes stupid to compare because they are guitarists with a whole different style of play. John Mayer is one of the only guitarists i know of, able to improvise like a that, its ice cold, with a perfect buildup. No wonder he worked with Steve Jobs, this is a genious.

MAYER IS THE EVOLUTION OF HIS INFLUENCES JUST AS SOME ONE WILL EVOLVE FROM HIM AND OTHER MODERN DAY PLAYERS. TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF ART KNOWS THAT IT IS FUTILE TO RANK MUSICIANS. MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVELY ABSORBED AND ,UNFORTUNATELY, PROCESSED BY NON PLAYERS IN THE FORM OF RANKINGS AND COMPARING SOMETHING THAT CONSTANTLY EVOLVES.
