as a fan of his (I'm now 30) one of the coolest things John ever did was introduce a whole new generation to this kind of Blues music. He made me appreciate it and then branch out my interests. That's huge.

so so true. he changed the music scene big time. i was into all the blues and the Dead before (i'm 42) and listened to Mayer back in 2010. i heard his music before but never really listened. i thought he was just another cocky pop musician. i like all his music and its cool to see him mature and be such a great artist. i like how he respects the legends and even surprises them sometimes. his resume is just mndblowing at this point and its deserved. he is a very smart and humble dude. hope he sticks around a very long time.

Totally disagree. Because of him, millennials have been introduced to music they would never have heard. And, he will go down as one of the greats. He’s surpassed many of the greats already and he’s barely 40

Just to clear this up, Feels Like Rain was indeed written by John Hiatt and it was originally released on his lp "Slow Turning" in 1988. 5 years later in 1993, it was recorded as a duet with Bonnie Raitt by Buddy Guy and released as title track of his second album on Silvertone records. Mayer's 100 times the guitar player he was back here in his early twenties and even then you can tell Buddy Guy's bugging at how cool his playing is. That's Buddy Guy, a man who needs NO intro!

I love the dynamics in this. I love that they didn't just try to play as loud and as fast as they can, but played with heart and soul. Ahhhhhhhhhh.....that was gooooooood!

Both of these guys are great musicians! Got to meet Buddy Guy 1 on 1 at a concert in St Charles, Mo at the Family Arena with Jonny Lang and Jimmie Vaughn. Spent 15 mins with Mr Guy my wife and I up close and personal with him and he is a class act for sure. Been following him for his whole career and he deserves much more recognition than he gets. You go Buddy and your music will still be playing long after we are gone! Love you man!

It does my heart good to see young people who get it that older people were young, too, and spent a lifetime of dues-paying and have a ton to offer. As far as Black - White - growly vocals and all that? One of the coolest old hipster Bluesmen alive is the great Mose Alison. What a songwriter, piano man - deep lyricist and genius from Mississippi. But he's too cool to worry about trying to "sound Black" or think he should or needs to. All shades of Blue work for me. It's all good! peace

I find it awesome that Buddy Guy inspired Hendrix, SRV, and Clapton, all who went on to inspire John Mayer, who has now gotten several chances to play with the great blues legend himself. It's like a huge circle of guitar virtuosos. Hopefully one day I'll get to jump in on that!

damn right. thing is john mayer opened up the eyes of the consumers and made the focal point blues. Hes like alright you listened to the pop stuff now focus your eyes on the real music. He really opened a new path for blues and will definetly go down in history. So where people use to say I grew up with hendrix or clapton ill be saying "Kids I grew up with Mayer, Bonnamassa, etc." Its wonderful what he has done.

I love how their guitars both immulate their personalities. Buddy's maple neck helps him with the loud and boistrous playing, while John's rosewood neck gives him the mellow sound. That's when you know you're listening to a good/great musician. When their instrument represents themselves.

Buddy is pretty short... for a Blues Giant! I met him at his bar "Legends" in Chicago, as he was just hanging out one night in Dec. A little more than a year later, I had the pleasure of seeing him perform at Legends (as he always does in January). He went wireless and stood right in from of me as he soloed! I don't want to say he was too close, but I could smell his 'jerry curl' as I looked over his shoulder when he played!! We were all blown away... what a venue!

hey rickygotblues, what are you now the best blues singer in the world or something? Music has no boundaries. Its about breaking barriers. Its about doing what you love and doing it well might I add. Its originality and sometimes the imperfections that make a song. It about being respecting each others individual style. If he did it any other way he wouldn't be John. He doesn't pretend to be a great singer he just is.
