Jack Venar facts. I was like the only one out of my friends listening to him back then. They didn’t understand me @ at the time. But I didn’t care.

the phone ringing at the end is great...it adds realistic touch to the environment...John is just a normal man playing his guitar like all of us do in our rooms, and but he adds his extraordinary lyrics...

His guitar technique. INCREDIBLE

For reasons I cannot explain, I simply love how the phone started ringing while he was playing. Although it irrationally makes me wish that I could call him, too. LOL.

I wish I could find this version as a tab... it's interesting the way he plays the chords here.

Mayer is a master guitar player. Not really surprising that he's a one-take guy. LOL the phone at the end is priceless.

John is playing a Martin OM-42. I don't think his signature OM-28JM was produced yet.
@lovesurfin15 жыл бұрын
I love how nonchalant he is.. and how perfectly he ended the song before picking up the phone.
@ams91415 жыл бұрын
Everyone says he's a normal guy, but i'm naming a syndrome after him. John Mayer syndrome. It's when you are so lonely and socially inept that you lock yourself in a room and play guitar on end for years. he just ended up getting really good and becoming famous.

@Shinando5714 жыл бұрын
@ams914 Actually, the chords are just the same, he only changes the place of the chords on the scale. On the chorus, instead of playing the G on the 3rd fret (6th string) ele does it on 10th fret 5th string and this way with all others.
@h4rsh3ys14 жыл бұрын
@elambing for the verses yes. chorus and bridge may be different, but i havent looked into it, the verse is the easiest part. try it.
@barnesrm766 жыл бұрын
Same for sony put out a 4 track before this with 'my stupid mouth' like 99 ish? Sam goody was giving it away. When I saw him do this on mtv2 it was live back then. You had to stay up and catch certain artists. I couldn't fucking believe it when I heard John Mayer play this. I still cant..
@guitarshapedjuicebox14 жыл бұрын
i love you john

*shakes his head* His dad rented the guitar for him and his brothers, and he started playing because of michael j fox playing johnny b goode in back to the future.
@spzenza70711 жыл бұрын
it all depends. If you feel comfortable between index and middle finger, then use that. I always put it between my middle and ring finger. takes practice.
@LaPerssonandro14 жыл бұрын
@ams914 Play around with hammer-ons. There's tabs with the pre-chorus stuff. This is the most beautiful performance of Clarity I've heard.
@backpain10015 жыл бұрын
at 0:38 doesn't seems like he messed up. Yeah sure, he did draw the pick out but the guitar chord is not the one he use for the chorus. The chord for the chorus look completely different at 1:11. So we know for sure there's no problem with the audio. May be the editor messed up with the video clips?
@samuh1414 жыл бұрын
i love this song
@TheAngelJC14 жыл бұрын
1st of all john mayer DOSENT mess up 2nd hes professional and hes done this for a while so the odds of him messing up are VERY slim. 3rd he can play anything he wants and it still sounds good even if he "messed up" or not 4th what might seem like a mess up to you may be an artist trying something new instead of playing the same thing
@AcousticLvr2213 жыл бұрын
it must be fun to be able to play like that XD
@Csky198813 жыл бұрын
ahah hes got commitment to a song. if the phone rings while im trying to play i drop everything to answer.
@ams91413 жыл бұрын
@jwdubs You should make a video! No I don't get what you said, I play it using my first, middle and ring finger already. So I don't get what adjustments you are trying to explain. I play it with middle on low E, first on the A, and Third string on the D.
@adamsimonsmusic14 жыл бұрын
Peep the pick coming out at :39 brilliant.
@roadkill845315 жыл бұрын
amazing! someone needs to tab this asap
@tteague552315 жыл бұрын
Actually at 39 seconds...you can see that he is finger picking and he has his pcik in between his pinkie and ring finger (where he holds it until he needs it) the he shuffles it up to move into the chorus...then it cuts away....while still in the verse.. even though he was moving into the chorus....so it was edited

@tk10016 жыл бұрын
yeah the intro is a bit different, basically same 2 chords, different picking pattern. The chorus you see here is the way he originally play "clarity" years ago. Now he does a double hammer-on chord follow by a bar chord.
