you wanna be like Jimi Hendrix??? I wanna be like you John

Being at this concert, and hearing all that this man can do with a guitar...it changed me. Wonderful night with the best music I've ever heard, in the best venue I've ever been in.

anyone who thinks that John Mayer is out of the discussion for the greatest guitar player of all time is deaf
@GastHeer10 жыл бұрын
Anyone who thinks John Mayer actually is the best guitar player of all time, doesn't know jack shit about guitarists. Listen to Guthrie Govan, Richie Kotzen, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Jonny Lang, Walter Trout and for instance Joe Bonamassa and you have a list of players who put Johnny boy crying in the corner.
@torduc2210 жыл бұрын
Al Swearengen SRV, Albert King, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and Jimmy Page will wreck the shit out of all the guitarist you just wrote down. You see what I'm trying to say here?
@torduc2210 жыл бұрын
Al Swearengen Which reminds me, I wonder why Mayer's been invited to the crossroads since 2004? Explanations there?
@GastHeer10 жыл бұрын
torduc22 SRV (best guitarist ever imo), Hendrix and Page I do agree on, but Buddy Guy and both King's are some old school blues artists. They excel in soul, but their technique is obsolete to Guthrie Govan for instance. But I wasn't trying to put my personal top 10 list on, but my point actually was that Mayer is a good guitarist, great possibly, but he fails to create his own sound and he's to much focussed on the pop genre. I love listening to John Mayer and I usually recommend him to people who want to start educating themselves in blues, as he's the perfect bridge between pop and blues and really is an easy to listen to artist. But when speaking of guitarist for the sake of their legacy as solely guitarists, John has a long way to go. I also find the older Mayer compositions stronger than more recent. Usually prefer JM Trio, with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino to JM solo as well.
@torduc2210 жыл бұрын
Al Swearengen Fair point I understand where you are coming from. Interesting that you say his older compositions are stronger: are you referring to this blues work or his really early work?

No matter what anyone else thinks, it's obvious that Mayer is the hendrix of the modern era.

DAMN! This was already my favorite Mayer tune, but combine that with Red Rocks, his message to the fans (which is very relatable to me right now,) and that ending guitar solo! This is EVERYTHING!

tbh this is the john mayer i class as the true john mayer. i loved born and raised but i could help wanting it to be a more of a blues rock album, like continuum. im also not a fan of how john sometimes refers to his older stuff as somewhat misguided, and his new sound is truly the most mature and focused sound he's ever had. i just hope he picks up the black1 one of these days and sees how something like gravity is a musical master piece and be inspired by that to go back to blues

John Mayer, probably could care less and probably don't read this S***. However, follow your soul and your heart, -and keep on playing. You speak, above and beyond. Do NOT get pocketed or let others "take you down" . You know who you are and the talent and spirit that abounds. So keep on, keep on..... please.

Do you know this for a fact. and if it is so, well..... id smoke a joint with him and turn him loose on his guitar. its about moderation. Im NOT into the hard stuff, however it has been at parties Ive attended and I politely excuse myself and go where the smokers are, usually around a bon fire. If not I PEACE OUT bc that sh.t aint my playground. Thats a lifestyle

people still do the "better than this" and "worst than that" thing? You learn, then you write, then you play. When it's good, people will show up. Not to see if you "measure up" to somebody, just because their music makes you feel good. Just feel good - stop comparing. Besides, that's what he's saying anyway... Music either moves me, or I'll move on to somebody else's music - and it's totally fine if my friends or whomever stay behind to listen to the same music that DID move them.
