John Mayer - “I Guess I Just Feel Like” - Dedication to My Cancer Battle

John Mayer recorded this personal video sending me words of hope and encouragement in my battle against leukemia and even tweaked the very end of the lyrics reminding me specifically that he hopes I personally never give up. Stay tuned for a little message at the end that just means EVERYTHING to me. ⁣⁣

What John Mayer doesn’t know is that just hours prior to getting his message yesterday, I was listening to this very song by request as I was claustrophobically and tightly strapped down to a custom fitted table and mask receiving full-brain and spinal radiation. The radiation technicians have started to put his albums on during my treatments before I even have to ask. ⁣⁣

John Mayer, thank you with all of my being for finding the time to record this backstage while on your tour in Chicago this week. I just can’t believe the kindness and sincerity. ⁣⁣You have brought life to me with this. ⁣⁣
Most of all though, this wouldn’t have even been possible without yet again the love and support of my dear friend, Alex Taylor. I know she’s pulled some major strings and I just want to thank her most of all in this providing me with constant surprises and encouragements beyond my wildest dreams. Lastly, thank you to Alex’s amazingly talented and well-connected brother, Gene Stupnitsky, for helping facilitate all of this while he was knee-deep this week in premiering his new major Hollywood blockbuster comedy, Good Boys. ⁣⁣

I’m Dustin’s wife, and as some of you mentioned, Dustin did pass away on April 8th. He watched this video from John Mayer more times than I can count, and I actually played it for him the day we had to say goodbye to Dustin. Thank you all for your love and support. Sometimes we get so frustrated with simple things and just start complaining about life. We turn on the radio and just hear awful stuff, it drains our energy. It is like we don’t even try to do something greater. It is actually pretty sad to know that Dustin is not between us anymore, but we have to start building up his legacy. Dustin, today i’ll smile because of you. For you, i’ll start giving more value to the simple things in my life. Nothing is in vain. To anyone who is reading this, just thank god (if you believe him) that you have a nice family, and have the opportunity to be sleeping on a comfortable bed every single night. Think of your oldest memories and be grateful to be part of those. Instead of complaining and spreading negativity, go for a nice walk, play your favorite song on the guitar, and tell the people around you that you love them before it’s too late. The truth is: life is beautiful, and sometimes it is normal feel sad about something, only that way you will give more value to happy moments. Never seen a great artist interact with his many fans this way....I've seen videos of him teaching guitar too on IG and here on YT, such an insight into his playing skill (of course, emulating is nigh impossible..)....and he seems to do it all with a carefree attitude showing genuine care. I’m crying. I’m crying... John Mayer is my favorite artist and it’s things like this that makes him as such. I’m a country and western artist, but John’s songs are some of the only ones that can make me cry. I have pretty bad Anxiety, and so I ponder on death way more than most people as apart of that. And I’ve thought about the day John passes. Wether if I never meet him, meet him once, a few times, or know him him well by then, I know I will be mourning as if a close relative died. He and his music mean more to me than people can understand. I find hope and encouragement there. In those songs with some of the best stories. Best tellings of triumph. I do hope to at least share the time in a conversation with him one day. Just to let him know why, reasons I won’t go into here, his work has touched my life in such a way. Even if he is just another person, he’s a hero in my eyes.
