I hope someone comes to this video after remembering the name of this song and just being nostalgic while admiring the greatness of this man john clayton mayer

Not quite correct - Neon 12:47 AM was on the independent released version of Inside Wants Out, which was only available at the merchandise booth at John's shows up until the Aware version release of Room For Squares came out in June 2001. At that point, Inside Wants Out went out of print and was no longer available. Then in September 2002, Columbia re-released Inside Wants Out but without Neon 12:47 AM on it.

I love hearing these early drafts of songs. I've been a fan since heavier things, and then got into him big after that, but I've never heard this.. it's cool because for aspiring musicians you can see the progression. There's this, which is undoubtedly cool, but not polished in the kind of sense to what the album version is, or even the now more famous acoustic version. It do be like that sometimes..

Hi would love to know what you think of my 17 year old grandsons latest cover of this. He has performed this a few times as it’s his favourite Mayer tune and I can see the improvement across them all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKizlmuYjaiXjNE

I don't think he would be any different than he was 10 years ago if he wasn't a star. Fame goes straight to your head usually and that is what happened to John over the years. I really kinda feel bad for him. He was such a nerd in high school and now he's some big megga star and it went straight to his head.

He's obviously still a nerd. He's taken advantage of fame, but he's still socially awkward (hence all of the public faux pas that got him in trouble) and still spends most of his time playing music.

no....he purposely has taken a different direction in his writting/production. hes in a different time in his life, this was about 10 years ago. time changes the way you feel about everything, especially music. music evolves like that, wether you (the listener) likes it or not. its not a question about 'sharpness', its about where you are in your life.

anyone know the types of scales hes using here to solo. definately more than pentatonic...seems very jazzy
@redacted5035 Жыл бұрын
yes, mayer is known to jump from very obscure niche scales to other very obscure niche scales, but he'll throw in a penatonic-like phrase in there too just to throw you and me off
@AndyTaftMusic9 ай бұрын
It’s just a minor scale but he instinctively knows where all the tasty notes are over each chord, 9ths, 11ths, etc. which help develop and enrich the harmony of every chord

I love the new John just as much as the old one. His blues playing is crazily underestimated and his songwriting abilities... Well let me just say, shit like the Jonas Brothers makes me appreciate John Mayer even more. He's unique in his absolutely not being shit... Unfortunately today's mainstream music consists mainly of that.

sadly, you're right :S .Today's music just sucks big time. the music here in spain is bloated with simple ideas and simple musicians who don't reach even mayer's left foot pinkie. I'm proud of myself and anyone who tries to go further and do real music, something diferent and not simple minded songs of 3chords and screaming out that my girlfriend left me so she's a bitch Excuse the poor english :P
