Nah a real bass playing on a bass amp has much more depth than the extended range guitars even at 9 string. I have both.

Agreed. It sounds very familiar. Anyone know what that could be potentially sampled or quoted from? I know it’s just an improvised tap bend pull-off/hammer-on of some sort but it sounds extremely familiar.

No matter how much you are into rock, metal, or djent, you have to say John Mayer is truly talented guitarist. The guy has never even touched a 8 string but is already trying to incorporate his own vision in to it.

One of his early influences was Charlie Hunter who plays extended range guitars in the same way Mayer was playing the 8-string. He learned how to do it from Charlie a long time ago

@@DerAykac yeah, you see them all the time under Gary Clark Jr.’s videos talking about technique. Like, that’s not the point lol That’s comparing apples to oranges. Gary is amazing and his interest is in emoting intense emotion from his guitar. And guys like Tosin and Tim, for example, are great too. But they have different focuses. People just have to be more open

It just shows that Tosin's guitars are useful for a whole lot more than just metal/djent. The ABASI guitars are good for blues, jazz and rock applications as well. Really well thought out instruments that reject some traditions and embrace others.

That faint octave up fuzz on the tele-style abasi just sounds absolutely phenomenal for blues licks. 1:09 was insane........those subtle overtones just (as they say) purr ! Was expecting Lightning and Willie Brown to roll up on the stage at any moment.

Have you only heard Gravity and Your Body is a Wonderland? His John Mayer Trio band is an incredible down and dirty blues band and his stuff touring with the Grateful Dead is great too. Make sure you look up those before you pass judgement.

Oavious Inc. It’s not backhanded, because his personal taste isn’t a hindrance to John’s ability. He’s simply saying while what John does isn’t a part of his listening palette, he still respects his ability and talent. That’s a much larger compliment to receive as a musician, rather than the mass amount of fans who would love anything you do regardless.

Phenomenal bluesy jazz riffs from John Mayer, to set aside any concerns some might have, about how well he would acquit himself as a jazz guitar practitioner. Love that weaving of the lead and chord progression. Hats off to a true master of the craft. Stumbled on this tune in 2020. A tour-de-force as always, courtesy Mr. Mayer.

Metalheads not wanting to give him props makeme laugh. I'm huge on metal too but come on people. You don't have to be sweep picking at 220 BPM to be a master. And a lot of shredders can't do what John can. For example, I'd love to see your favorite metal guitarist play Neon and sing it too.

Aight,I get who technique thingy,but that is preposterous,like there are many things your fingers can't really do,like I don't know,clip the signal? Even if with a D.I. it would sound cool it still wouldn't be the same without any effects.
