Ryan is the best singer/songwriter of his generation, IMHO!

Both are indeed at the top of their game. If you have any rock n roll in your bones. You know Ryan Adams is legit. And John Mayer is the perfect musician.

My favorite modern solo artists are John Mayer, Ryan Adams & Jack White. So this was just like a dream. Had Jack White came out as well I would have dropped dead. :P

I consider both of these guys to be vastly underrated. It's nice that two guys who seemingly are musical opposits have enough of a mutual respect for one another to play together like this.....very very cool. I'm a huge deadhead, and so is Ryan, and apparently now so is John (enough so to do a quite serviceable turn with the Dead). Nice for those to see that Ryan can more than hold his own Solo wise (in service to the song that is) with John, who's own songwriting is vastly overshadowed by his typically flowery playing.
@likeanantelope18424 жыл бұрын
The connection is the dead. Both heads in their own right with Ryan playing with Phil 15 years ago and Mayer doing the dead and co thing. Both amazing songwriters from different points of view brought together by Jerry.

John Mayer owns Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, modern day genius. It doesn't hurt that he is playing with one of the all time greatest songwriters and voices of all time in Ryan Adams.

I've seen Clapton and met SRV in July 1990. I wouldn't let Mayer carry SRV's gear. However, among modern players, he is good.
@pawelzabicki77856 жыл бұрын
Well, SRV was pretty limited - superb clean and fast technique, but in terms of musical versatility, adaptiveness, creativity, Mayer is above, not to mention his successful writing in completely different genres. And saying he is good among other players is just out of any objectivity. Watching him playing with his heroes and in general guitar heroes, he trumps at many levels.
@itsjusthammy Жыл бұрын
Disagree. Very talented to say own, is wild to me. John Mayer is the musician he is because of the musicians you claim he owns.

how i'd love to know what John's favorite RA album and song are. or better yet what unreleased album of his is his favorite. he has to know most of Ryan's unreleased stuff
@josephmccafferty1996 жыл бұрын
There's a reason that Adams doesn't always like people "noodling" all over his songs, and that's because they never do it as expertly as Mayer does here. Where they often detract, he adds. Great collaboration, but not nearly as good as the version of Elton John's Rocket man, I got to hear Adams and Counting Crow's Duritz do at a concert (I think it was to support Gold) I got to hear in Boston. I've been to a lot of concerts and that is still the best moment of them all!!!!!!

These boys are the chidlren of the DEAD, or Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Clapton, etc, so they grew up listening to the Greats, no wonder they sound derivative, but they are not, this is a new sound, at least twenty years if thats new, thats pure rock and roll/ americana/ blues , its totally generic, and honed to the point of brilliance. Fabulous music
