I know I’m doing the right thing because my spirit sings when I play music. And nothing in life makes sense, except for when I’m sharing that music with other people
@hannahkar

I feel this. My spirit does sing, but sharing it has always felt like I'm compromising my purity to the weight of other peoples opinions. Always been an obstacle to share myself.
@samtayla2326
@samtayla2326 3 жыл бұрын
@@hannahkar I feel that. I'm at a point where I'm trying not to hold back anything because what other people might think, because I realized that authenticity and originality will always beat trends. And who has the right to say your music sucks if it's from your heart? Nobody, and if they think they do they have a lot to learn. Of course I'm not talking about technicalities and constructive criticism.
@tlovesretro

Exactly! The only way I can say how I feel and actually really emotionally feel is when I'm performing and writing and playing and singing. It pools up overtime. But then... when I put my feelings from pen to paper a waterfall of emotions comes out and will make me cry because FINALLY... FINALLY I can feel. FINALLY I can get the emotion out instead of holding it in because I haven't had my outlet. It's an incredible feeling to know you're not alone. Good luck on your endeavors. I wish you nothing but happiness.

Wow I did not expect so many people to relate.. it has been an incredibly difficult year. Living above other tenants in a house, I feel bad playing music and don’t play as much as I’d like to just out of consideration. Lost my jobs revolving around music due to COVID. I didn’t realize how much it’s affected me. But even when I can’t play music I’ll grab my sketch book and try to learn more about music, dissect songs, try to understand more about theory so I can make something so beautiful that it could heal the world. Something so beautiful that it could end war. Something so beautiful that it could give others the strength to keep living, just like music gave me the strength to pull myself out of this pit. Just like John Mayer’s songs saved me heartbreak after heartbreak, when I was so broken and didn’t think I could recover. Thanks for inspiring us, John. One day when I’m good enough, I’ll give that gift back to the world too. Keep writing, all of you. Let music guide you towards your happiness. Universe means one song, after all.

I remember at 7 years old, I was at Disney with my parents and in the middle of “it’s a small world” ride, when I thought to myself “this is it, in a couple seconds I could close my eyes and I will never have a childhood again, ever, my parents will be gone and I’ll be old. In a couple seconds, I’ll be in my death bed.” Truly a terrifying feeling but, it made me appreciate the little moments that much more,

John Prine did not write Clay Pigeons-A huge part of johns influence was a man named "blaze Foley"-who wrote it. he was a troubled drunk and it kept him right where he seemingly wanted to be, in the underground. Merl Haggart also covers it live and gives no mention that Blaze foley wrote it. Its good to fact check when 100 thousand people are listening.

Listen to the emotion you hear in his voice when hes talking about this, you can tell this is what hes here for, that passion is what made this guy a star, he loves what he does there no doubt in my mind. I don't know if you'll see this man but I'm a songwriter too and I've been trying to write a "slow dancing in a burning room" for years now what I realized to be a great writer you have to live that truth. I had a charting song and all of that, the accolades are good, but if you love what you do and you enjoy doing it, that is what matters the most. Great wisdom

I would venture to guess that John Mayer not only knows who James Foley is but that he in fact wrote the song John Prine is singing ... To point out and complain about something so seemingly and eye watering glaringly innocuous as though you've enlightened NOT only John Mayer but his many fans as though you are the Second Coming and it is your divine duty to make yourself seem holier than thou at the expense of others... It's amusing because I for one think it shines a bright spotlight on your failure to appreciate the wisdom being spoken about songwriters in general. It's perfectly acceptable to enjoy someone else's rendition of a song while still appreciating the craftsmanship of said song. I would assume John Mayer like Mr. Prine's version and it may hold some sort of sentimental value to him... The point of this light hearted but deathly sincere tirade is to let you know that not only have you wasted your inevitably dour of dwindling days on this floating rock regurgitating what countless others have already commented on verbatim but the more morose of a fact is that you've entirely missed truly valuable lessons by (1) focusing on the wrong aspect that I would only be failing you if I were to enlighten you to what it is, (2), thinking you know more about music than John Mayer and (3)...the most egregious of all the petty social grandstanding unavoidable commentators who revel in showing your lack of originality and the sheer inability to think before making yet another pointlessly asinine comment in order to make yourself appear to be the prized victor in some keyboard warrior tournament of swine to prove the innate inability to say anything remotely positive or profoundly thought provoking that may actually add a bit of humanity and some much needed civility back into this society of growing cretins shielded by the anonymity of their screens. But, hey if it makes you happy well then keep on keeping on and let that ever present desire to be a mindless cog in the machine who's only happy when they're wrong. If you've made it this far, you'd be pleasantly surprised that I'm a super fucking easy going, laid back professional musician who just so happens to get slightly(but in a good natured way) cantankerous when it comes to outright online vitriolic stupidity... It's a plague and the only cure is more cowbell. You take it easy out there dude or dudette. Remember, life's a garden, so dig it. Cheers. Xoxo

John Prine was a fucking amazing song writer..what he said is true...why did you play one of the few he didn’t write

Dude I forgot John Prine died, Clay pigeons is really good, a mix of Dylan and Johnny Cash's hurt era- Blaze Foley is a good writer but Prine's rendition much like Hendrix's to all along the watch tower has overthrown

Lol He Tried quoting a Bill Hicks bit, and pass it off as his own, but failed miserably. That’s why it didn’t make any sense. Also, The guy he was talking about didn’t even write the song he was playing.
