If the 8th fret is C minor equator then the 5th would be A minor equator ?

Yes! Shape 1 and 5 would have an equator between them at the 5th fret in the key of A minor.

I'm confused. Isn't that still a C minor pentatonic? In Mayer's video, he called it major and minor. This shape does get you some more real estate to work with in Cminor, but I'm not sure how its supposed to be used as the major pentatonic. To me, using the "forefinger/pinky" method of box shape 1 is a way to get major and minor pentatonics of the same key, but this shape gives you more surface area to cover with just the minor. I'm not well versed in CAGED or the pentatonic shapes,and obviously I'm not John Mayer, so I don't know! Only speaking from my experience. Id love a reply, I know you reply to a lot of people and I like your videos, thanks for all the great content!

Hey Drew! Yes. The idea is that you’re gaining more territory to play C minor pentatonic. It is just expanding the places you can play the pentatonic in order to create more variety, more ways to play ideas, more ways to flow between notes with slides, hammer-ons, and pulloffs. You could also use these exact notes to play over the relative Major, which is Eb major. Does that answer the question?

hello i have a question this equator works in any chord like a major and a minor ?

Hello. Yes. This is really just the combination of pentatonic shapes 1 and 5. Would work on any chords.
