"There is a time they are there 100 percent with everything. And then at some point, for whatever reason, not making a judgment, you or someone says, 'nah'. And what they force themselves to do to get over you is so transformative, for good and bad that you will NEVER see that whole person again"

This is why John Mayer is a REAL songwriter. He goes deep and we feel his pain. Listen to the live version he was finally able to sing and play. Heartbreaking...💔

For me it's the line "you know how lonely it is to see a little drug store Christmas tree". We have all passed a little old drug store with the fake snow in the window and a little 2 foot Christmas tree and its the melancholy that wells up inside you that we can all relate to. Wishing maybe you were holding the hand of a past love and realizing you never will.

How tragic it is for a guy to know that when it's too late....women do just give up and it can be excruciating but they know in their hearts that this is not going to change and i need to walk away. It hurts on both sides :/ but there's always hope of love

What bothers me about women is they just show up and say, "this is me, if it works out wonderful, if we cant get along itll never change, it wont work out." Thats my experience. Instead of working on our own flaws and seeing how we both hurt the other, and improving ourselves bc we DO love the significant other, we do the opposite. Idk, I spent 5 years in a marriage explaining the same damn thing, for her to be compassionate and learn to say sorry, own up to her fuck ups and not blame me for them. Not ONCE in 5 years she did anything wrong. No matter extremely terrible and obvious or tiny. Maybe I got a lemon of a girl, but literally, if she realized that, we'd be happy. But you cant change a person. They can only change themselves. Most ppl arent stupid, they know what they're doing, and we need to be realistic if they refuse or deny making the change through care. Love, its a bitch." Rolling Stones-Bitch.

Never on the day you leave is a song that makes me cry every time i listen to it. It is filled with emotion, story and connection which just takes your heart away. Its a sad song but a really good song that you have to keep listening to ! John is my favourite artist for that exact reason. He is creatively, cleverly able to make a song which brings the audience through the adventure and helps us picture what he has been through. Even tho you weren't there to experience it you still feel connected. I love johns music as he is able to do all them things whilst creating so many powerful song. Although i'm a female i have been through similar and i have been like that woman who just goes nah and pretends they have gotten over him but truly its not. This song and john means so much to me and i can say way more. ( i wrote a whole paragraph explaining my true feelings and it was the best thing i wrote but then i accidentally deleted it and now my brain has forgotten what i wrote 😥).

I’ve been the woman he’s talking about. I fought for my ex-fiancé with all my heart and soul. Soft toys, picnic hampers, hand-knitted beanies… but then one day I was at his house still trying to win him back when his friend phoned. My ex-fiancé was standing side-on to me, and as he told his friend that I was there he rolled his eyes. I left immediately and never called him again. I’ve now been married for 21 years to an amazing man. Many years after that break up, my ex-fiancé admitted to my mother that “he let a good one go“.
