My honest review of this song that no one asked for First of all, John, i love you, youre a genius and this is a work of art, second of all... there is no second lmao (luv u) Starting with bright colors, this piece of art shows a happy approach with the main character day, with the lyrics of this song saying that "Life don't always go so well [...]" started the descent in mood in the characters life with him waking up late, and spilling coffe on his white shirt (the white shirt serves the purpose to max out the coffe spill -make it more obvious-) with the next scene showing a more dim ambience with the character needing to wash his t-shirt, and following the Pre-Chorus: "So I'm gonna smile even when it rains The sun's still up there, shinin' on the cloudy days I might be down for a while But I don't mind the pain I'll wake up tomorrow And sing my happy song anyway" Recognizes what happens in the daily basis on the main characters life, that when stuff happens he doesnt care, he tries to keep his head up (keep that in mind). With the Pre-Chorus the scene gets back into a lighter and brighter ambience with the smile on the characters face more obvious than never, one thing that i personally liked about this is that the singing with the comb made me connect with the main character in a personal manner, extending the liking and apreciation of him in such way that make the viewer feel, what he feels, his smile too make it more obvious that he is alive and is feeling things. Next scene with the now full out Chorus we see the main character now ready to work going down the stairs and going in his car, but the car doesnt work that once again, shows how nothing is working out even with him trying (trying like hitting the start engine button plenty of times), then it cuts to him struggling to get his bike out of the car but the bike doesnt work either, this compilation of scenes make the viewer think that the hes actually trying to get things to work but he can, and he still is smiling. Now with the Verse 2 he finally snaps and starts to realize how miserable his life is, combo that with his bike not working and you got there a scene that is clearly meant to represent him having to deal with many things at once, but still trying to stay happy with him coping and saying quote "But I don't concern myself with petty things", now call me crazy but, i dont think your crush getting another man over you and a trip you booked did not work is a small thing, id be pretty down with this stuff and THAT is how the clip WANTS you to do, to compare what you feel with his feeling and think HOW he isnt sad! His bike starts to break down and he says: "Completing every daily thing; But as I'm caught in misеry; And all my friends all wanna do is leave" shows that he is distinctly breaking down and finally letting the viewer know how he is caught in this daily hell he calls life (Groundhog day stuff), and with him saying that everything he wants to do is leave, thats a depressive character we got there. It cuts to him walking with that straight mouth that we do when something doesnt work out or when we recieve a bad news, that face is when you just want to look at the sky and dont do nothing, THAT my friend is a amazing move you did, the character is not crying or any other exagerated emotion, THAT shows how human he is, and how much of a stuggle hes going thru. After that he recieves a notification from his boss saying that hes fired and we can see he is about to cry. And then this egg scene i saw that some people didnt get it, but i think i got it and that how i interpreted it: After he gets the notification he walks into a grass field with open arms to get eggs thrown at him, that can resemble a bunch of things but for me that can mean how he is now self destructive with himself after failing in everything he did in the day, OR the people throwing the eggs could represent the events that unfolded that day and how the pressure is now being thrown (as eggs) into him **_Is valid to mention here that the egg throwing thing is represented as bad or punishement in games or modern culture, thats why i said that the eggs arent actually eggs, they are a form of materializing the pressure or any other of mental harm as eggs. After the eggs being thrown at him we can see him now devastated with his white shirt (that again the white shirt serves to make what happened more obvious) entering his home and going to wash his white t-shirt, again, now after that it cuts to him in the bathroom mirror arranging his hair, now stay with me on this one because GOD DAMN, we already saw this scene back in the clip but now its DARKER, WHICH IS A AMAAAAAZING THING! Darkness is often represented as something sad or monotone, and the change we had from a brighter and with a more fast song to a now dark and slow music shows how the main character has descented into depression and misery. Now in his home he is prepping something for him to eat, but then when he opens a package he got from his refrigerator, its empty... which is another from of showing of how nothing is working on his life and how miserable he is... Now guys, STAY WITH ME PLASE! This scene 2:11 paired with the dark ambience, slow music and the main character misery (misery in a way that nothing is working out, plus the toast hes eating that in some way is considered poor or sad simple) is just such way to frame sadness, this is the same technique used in UP, technique that used a close ambience and dark or dim lights to make the scene look tinier and depressive, and is the same scene build where many people say is the saddest movie scene ever. **_Notice how hes using a brown-ish t-shirt than his normal white shirt, that means the light in his life (White shirt) has become a darker, sadder tone. Last scene he tries to lift his head up again but little does he know his stove was actually a pipe bomb. The end :) John, YOU'RE, A, GENIUSSSSSSSA!!! PLEASE! Dont stop making musics, they are TOO GOOD!
