Echoing other comments, John Myung is why I started learning to play bass and Mike Portnoy for drums. I remember seeing the A Rite of Passage music video on MTV when it came out. I scrolled past, and said "wait, that was kinda cool," scrolled back, and the next day, in middle school lunch break, I used the entire break to listen to them on KZbin. This was probably 2008/9 or so. Have been a devout fan ever since. Love them to death. Your comment about them being a "musician's band" definitely rings true for me. Always wanted to go into music education, was a total band/orchestra/choir nerd throughout grade school and college. Taking theory classes and percussion studio classes really allowed me to go back and listen to DT songs that I thought I'd fully analyzed back years ago, only to find new and incredible things.

A wild guess but I feel like John Myung could have been traumatized by his past experiences with public speaking, hence the anxious reactions. People with more success in public speaking usually feed off of their successes. He is probably able to express himself a lot better in writing compared to oral communication.
