I just hope that John will comment on the ridiculousness of Central America cold war crime figure, Elliot Abrams being appointed as the U.S. Special Envoy to Venezuela. The man now responsible for organizing regime change. The same guy from the early 80's, who, under the facade of the State Department Humanitarian Affairs, outlined a cover-up of U.S supported massacres in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. And to appoint the same sociopath to guard the hen house AGAIN, is way more insane than Trump becoming President. Abrams also looks like some kind of mythological evil elf. A "Bizarro Cupid", if you will. You would think all that would be easy pickins' for a great satirist like Colbert, but ultimately all Broadcast Television serves the interests of military and oil interests. Lets hope John can make up for that handicap.

Reddust86 They aren't "underrated". Most people mentioning them in the comments think they are pretty good. YOU think they are good. That job they have playing on this show is probably one of the more lucrative gigs you can get as a paid musician, in terms of money as well es exposure to the public. They just don't have the kind of success hit singles provide to bands. When you say they are "underrated", you basically say that you're one of a select few blessed with the genius to recognize their talent. Which is clearly not the case. Select your words with care so you don't say anything you don't want to say. Wanna say that you think they are good, that you like their work? Well, then say exactly that.

Almost made it through entire day without thinking along the lines "this country will be [expletive] up for years b/c all these [expletive] things Trump has did and don't get me started about (dear god, I want to stop thinking about it) the Supreme Court!" "Aarrggh, now I got a headache!" legit, ran out of Tylenol 2 days ago

@Drawn - pretty much. The GOP, facing the possibility of their losing power permanently, have put years and years of effort in to warping as much of the US institutions, voting districts, judicial appointments (lower courts and the SC) to favor their right-wing donors.

But what if the courts get packed when a sane person ascends to the White House?

One of the reasons Kavanagh was chosen is because he's a youngish man, prob be there for 40+ years. They could easily get the chance to do it again before Trump is removed. And that's just the Supreme Court...
@telectronix13685 жыл бұрын
@@snowstrobe And there is less incentive for right-wing judges lower courts not to push decisions that favour the Republican right wing (since any appeals have more chance of getting knocked back by a right-leaning SC.

Actually he hits the nail with the Brexit analogy it is like jumping out of a plane without a parachute and only then starts thinking that it might be a good idea with a parachute. And on the way down you meet 2 other persons falling down, one of them offers you a parachute and the other just keep insisting you don’t need the parachute and everything is going to be fine, if you just believe enough that you can fly. While simultaneously not telling you they have a hidden parachute on themselves, in case that they might be wrong!

Actually joining the EU was the leap in the unknown. We, the British people, were told, promised, a simple free trade, free movement, bloc, and we'd always be in charge, we could just veto any law we didn't like and so on. Then a couple of decades later that independence, that veto, was gone. Signed away without any consultation. It wasn't in any election manifesto. We didn't get a referendum asking us if we agreed. Gone. Suddenly the EU, with an unelected President, and unelected Commission (the only body that can propose new legislation) can make up new laws and the EU Parliament could impose them onto the UK, even if we the people, our Parliament and our government were against it. We never agreed to that. It was joining the EU that was the leap into the unknown. Now we've left our laws are decided by the MPs we elect and the government we elect, and who we can fire if we don't agree.
