I love Rachel's reaction to feeling the mask more than any performances! The other Christines feeling it and still finish the note they were singing while running away, as if they weren't totally shocked to figure out that the phantom was there. Rachel's acting with the gasp actually feels like she didn't know that that was the Phantom the whole time.

I always love Rachel's voice for Christine. Her voice is so pure and innocent sounding! I have determined that JOJ makes the hottest Phantom in the Point of No Return scene lol. I think Gerard Butler was able to sing this stronger
@PrismsofGlass10 жыл бұрын
Robin Kruger I would never take ALW at his word. He's willing to say just about anything to promote things, so if he says Gerard Butler is his favorite, well, he might just have been promoting the 2004 movie. (I mean, he wants it to make money, right? Why would he say, "Oh no, Gerard Butler sucks, I didn't like him at all"? Common sense.) ALW has come out and said, some years after the movie came out, that he wasn't particularly satisfied with the film or any adaptations of his musicals. Anyway, to go back to your comment, you said that Gerard Butler sang it stronger. I would have to respectfully disagree. Gerard Butler had massive struggles with the score - his voice was underpowered, he clearly strained throughout the role, and several of his notes were autotuned or lengthened electronically. I should also mention that in your previous comment, you never said anything about emotion, just about strength of voice. Anyway, for emotion, well, I've seen Phantoms who have put way more into other songs than Gerard Butler, such as 'Stranger Than You Dreamt It' (check out Ethan Freeman, Gary Mauer), 'I Gave You My Music' (David Shannon), and the 'Final Lair' (so many, but take a look at Ian Jon Bourg, Scott Davies, and Michael Crawford). But please, no death threats.
@amybaker46549 жыл бұрын
+Vlaudislaus Calm down.I think that Gerard was chosen more for his sex appeal than his voice,which to me sounds electronically enhanced.Singing on to a track for playback is very different to singing live in a theatre.I have heard Michael Crawford,he was very good, and John Owen Jones sing but John impressed me the most.He has a better range and his voice is gorgeous...he can even sing sensually to add to his incredible stage presence.Trust me ,ask any girl/woman who has seen him.They wear microphones and the volume can be controlled obviously,John has vocal power and a video doesn't really convey that.
@robinkruger47989 жыл бұрын
Amy Baker you're a fucking idiot, of course opera trained singers who do it professionally are better at singing than a movie actor, no Gerard's voice was not digitally altered you fuckhead, but even with all his training he still doesn't understand what over singing is. He completely fails the songs emotion. Gerard can also hit the higher notes and produce a better sound this man struggles to try and produce a good sound which he doesn't achieve. A strong singer is someone who can produce good sounds not belt them out at the highest decibel level they can achieve without going flat

Some people say movie version's Point Of No Return is sexier...well, they're wrong. The movie version is visually sexy so you can see it's sexy even if you are a child. But this stage version is sexy in a different way. The Phantom does not lure Christine with his masculine body and does not touch her body like the movie version. He seduces Christine with his voice and hands. He just whispers in her ear, caress lightly. And also this does not have tango. Because music itself is already sexy as hell without a tango. JOJ phantom is by far sexier than Gerald Butler one.
@JSKatsky3 жыл бұрын
I agree, the Point of No Return is all about the seduction, not about being sexy.

John Owen Jones is way better than Ramin Karimloo as the phantom. He has that fatherly yet smooth/ghostly presence that the phantom has yet you know through his movements that he is manipulative. Ramin was good, but his young aggression bothered me. It didn't feel real like the way John did it. John has more control over the power he vocally brings to the part. Even hearing him at the 25th I was wondering why on earth they didn't ask him to do the performance??? Ramin Karimloo is still great in his own way, but as the lights die down and it comes to one face in the mirror it's John Owen Jones.

I disagree, if Ramin is just sexy then why did he get the role to originate Love never dies, being he the first to take the test for Andrew? among so many Andrew chose Ramin even John had already done the Phantom so many times, and why ramin was chosen again to do on his 25th birthday? !! he has talent and for me he is what most balances the rage and the sensitivity of the Phantom

Yes he did, but it was a one-time thing; the major theories are that it was a genuine cursing fit because part of his wig (the one glued to his head) got removed and it was painful, or that it was part of a "muck-up matinee" joke to make his Christine laugh.

Yet another reason why I can't decide between Ramin & JOJ. Both of them are incredibly sexy and sensual. Hearing either one of them sing "Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime...lead me save me from my solitude..." then "Anywhere you go let me go too!" I'm like, "Oh hell yes! Let's get outta here!" ;-) As for Rachel Barrell's Christine...she's good, but I actually prefer Sierra Boggess on stage, and Emmy Rossum in the film. (And Gerard Butler's PONR is sexy as anything! That Scottish accent that creeps in every now and then is just...OMG!)
@Thepixiebella7 жыл бұрын
A. Katherine Suetterlin Ramin is such a good Phantom. He portrays him very well! He is one of my favorites, I love him. As for John, I feel like he portrays the angel/ father image very well. I don't see Ramin's fatherly side in his performance if you know what I mean! It doesn't matter too much because I love him anyways! But OMG have you see JOJ in the final lair scene like at the very end? His passion, his scream 'go and leave me' and "it's over now the music of the night." It's all so powerful! OMG you're right, It's so hard to chose! But I guess their both equally good!

Does the reason she run a way half way change for Broadway and West end or is it a director decision. Because sometimes she goes to kiss him and he turns away and in others she gets uncomfortable with him touching her chest.
@PrismsofGlass5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is different, based somewhat on location. In London the Christine tends to run off because she was uncomfortable with the Phantom touching her chest, while on Broadway and international productions she usually goes to either touch or kiss his face, which makes the Phantom back off. But it also differs based on actress and what year.

Danann Tyler Have you seen her 'Final Lair' with JOJ? She's incredibly sympathetic to him, particularly at the end, and with JOJ in general she's definitely a lot more feisty.
