great job John, clear and quite useful with the preparation exercises. I have been experimenting with different stockings with Kije and I can rebound cleanly with 1 hand e.g. rrrL for the 4 stroke ruff. and use open double for the 2 stroke ruff. Regardless of the sticking I feel the grace notes should give a sense of legato to the main note and the purpose of the grace notes is to "dress the rhythm" without compromising on the rhythm itself. Just a thought. paul

Hey Paul, so glad you like it! I know what you mean about the rrrL sticking; Bill Cahn allegedly used that sticking later in his career with the RPO, and I know others have experimented with it. However to execute the notes at the proper distance, dynamic level, and context--in order to win an audition--you really only have two choices: rllR and to single it a la Alan Abel. Cheers!

Exellent...would you play it also with this sticking? lllR
@johnwparksiv4 жыл бұрын
Hey Giovanni, you certainly could, some choose that for spots in Shostakovich 11. However I like the articulation of alternate or rllR (or lrrL if you're left-handed). I'd say play around with it and see if you can make it work--doesn't matter how you get there as long as you do :)

@@johnwparksiv thank you... I will practice your way, I usually play a pressed left hand with an accented right hand for fast tempos(lllR).. I wanted make sure I wasn't totally wrong :)
