So yesterday he pretended he cared about Sally and today he shows that he just wanted a reason to be close to John Paul, which is not romantic, it's selfish. If he cared about John Paul and cared about Sally, he would have been okay with him leaving the premises. Or he knew John Paul would leave anyway and that gave him a reason to suspend him 🙄

That’s one reading of the situation. To me, it read that he genuinely cares for JP and wanted to support him so took him to the hospital and waited with him - I think we saw genuine Carter. He was starting to cave again, particularly when JP visited him and told him he still has feelings for him. But the one thing in life he has been led to believe is all he should work towards, would give him worth and should be what any normal healthy man should have - a heterosexual “normal” relationship which has taken so much work and sacrifice for him - has just been torn to shreds and he was powerless to stop it. He’s angry, resentful, he feels out of control and his entire existence to this point has been about controlling his impulses and desires and being controlled - he hates himself so much, and hates that this all has to be so difficult for him and he simply doesn’t know where to direct that energy to, besides the people he loves - he lashed out at Freya also, and JP. I read a lot of underlying hurt in his actions and motives, and not that he is evil or twisted.

Every bad choice he makes is a result of the continuous abuse and brainwashing he has suffered so he thinks he’s helping people. He can’t just decide to not be brainwashed anymore, nor can JP convince him to magically erase 2+ decades of brainwashing in a few moments. He needs mental health support long term to heal from this and break the abusive cycle

It's funny how Garreth just up and disappeared. Anyways, my prediction is everyone will find out about Carter, he'll be fired as head master for what he did to Lucas and everyone will hate him for his conversion therapy. The only person that will still care, aside from Freya, is JP and then after Carter has lost everything, he'll realize he needs to get his head out of his butt and finally be with JP properly.

I’m still hoping they’re going to show how a victim of decades long abuse and CT breaks the cycle. It’s certainly more interesting and realistic than Lucas’s ridiculous storyline. A product of a queer friendly environment with no religious inclination whatsoever falling into religious based conversion therapy? It doesn’t happen in real life. The victims are always from religious environments.

Lucas struggling a bit with being gay isn't something that I find a stretch, but struggling to the point where he was repeatedly violently lashing out (none of which had anything to do with Carter) and succumbing to Christian based conversion therapy? It just doesn't happen. It's like they're trying to create an obstacle in the form of an angsty struggle between Lucas and Dillon rather than putting any effort into their personalities, which neither has currently. The CT storyline wasn't written for Lucas and its pretty damn obvious its what they changed when the new producers took over.
