That extra string really adds another texture of "I'm never going to fucking play this."

+mrrusss Thats really funny, cracked me up TY
@Nayradharma9 жыл бұрын
+mrrusss Yes true. I think the extra string is A. As i'm sure you know if John plays some dominant chord with its root in the fifth string he would move it to the seventh string. Like an E7 would be 7xx677x not x7677. Correct me if i'm wrong.
@Alan_Page9 жыл бұрын
+N I'm not really sure, but just looking at it simply, yeah an octave below would make sense to me. Being able to play a note a fifth below any root normally played on the sixth string would also make sense.
@johnklipp8 жыл бұрын
+mrrusss It's still possible to play this on a six-string! Look at my channel and you'll see what I mean :D

Its no surprise that the son of Bucky Pizzarelli is a phenomenal guitarist! I met John when he was just a kid, sometime around 1980 at Ken Spooner's Clearwater Guitar Gallery. He was a regular guy, unassuming and unaware of his status as royalty. When John entered the store, a Tom Waits tune was playing, he commented that he knew the Gallery was special and it was. Ken Spooner was a terrific teacher and his Gallery was a unique oasis in Clearwater, Fl. Ken tried his best to bring some culture to Clearwater with some live shows but the area just didn't support it. Ken moved to Nashville where he did well, he deserved it.

We can say it was only a first shot ....like some exploration ....and a few years later JOHN added his voice on that even more stratospheric comp part , using classic nylon strings guitar for an outstanding fluent escape . ( réf . briusada . John PIZZARELLI . Just the way you look tonight . At Home ) .

I like the tone of that guy's guitar. Not talking about the playing but the sound of the guitar. He's a great player but I mean the tone. It's a lot of the strings being part of this. He's using LaBella flat wrap strings which give them an almost nylon string sound. Those strings suit his playing style well.
@jean-lucbersou7587 жыл бұрын
TO MUCH compression for me .That's not what i consider a great tone on an amplified archtop . I prefer a single acoustic without any effect .It looks here as John was using the octaver on a 102 POLYTONE of the 70's .
@jean-lucbersou7582 жыл бұрын
@Bennett TurtelThanks for the explanations and details you bring here . My comment at that time was quite clumsy . Don't misunderstand I do like and admire JOHN PIZZARELLI guitar playing and singing ....and Moll's archtop guitars are the acme lutherie and the tone with rich harmonics and absolute definition of each note into chords sequences is a must . May I admit I have some resistance to amps !

@budandbean15 жыл бұрын
Really love this tune and John’s playing is unbelievable but, so many of these amazing guitarists over complicate their music to the point that it really stops sounding good and seems to turn into more of an exercise of just how much unbelievable finger work you can stuff into a song. Sadly in my humble opinion that is the case here. This would be so much better thinned out with more inflection than speed picking... I mean sometimes it’s actually hard to hear the actual song phrasing under all the thrashing.
@Pan34056 жыл бұрын
Don't like the sound of the bass string.. But the arrangement is yabadabadooh!!!!
