I grew up with John Prine, thanks to my dad. Unfortunately, I lost my Dàd in 2010 so he won't be here to see it but I'm getting married soon and this will be our first dance song. Best love song I've ever heard. Prine was an amazing songwriter.

I think if you do more John Prine songs you will use the word genius to the point it loses its meaning as something special 😂 . Pretty much all of his work is genius. Also, I think, an unparalleled sustained period of excellence by any singer/songwriter, ever. I really do feel sorry for folks that are missing out on him.

Dude, they are professionals, that’s how they did it! 😂 Seriously, when you get to be an old couple, you can say stuff like this and make each other laugh. My husband and I saw him in concert with Iris on tour for this album. Early in our marriage he had to carry me in the house after we attended a John Prine concert. I might have had a little too much to drink, but he’d never tell. Forty-two years almost that we’ve been married, but we still listen to John Prine and deeply mourned his death.

Bob Dylan is on the record citing John Prine as one of, if not his favorite songwriters of all time. Prine was discovered in the Chicago folk scene in the early 70s and got his big break from Kris Kristofferson. He's one of my musical heroes. Beat throat cancer and even though it drastically changed his voice, he found a way to make it all work to where he's still putting out amazing stuff to this day.
@smalltownblackouts4 жыл бұрын
John Prine is a national treasure. This song is such a huge contrast to "Angel From Montgomery" or "Sam Stone" which you have also reacted to. He's the only person I would compare to Isbell in the way as John Mayer described Jason as, "...he exists on a songwriting plane most songwriters only get to visit". I've never heard a song I don't like by Prine A song in tbe same vein as this you should react to is 'Another Like You' by Hayes Carll

John Prine was a huge influence on Jason Isbell's song writing. He's talked about it a number of times.

One of my favorite Prine songs. You said it... that’s real life, that’s real love. He can write lyrics and songs that perfectly depict real life in sometimes fun and sometimes dark (Sam Stone). Dylan called Prine the best songwriter ever at some point... you know you’re doing something right when Dylan says that about you. Great stuff Don!

But I made friends with a musician who had played with him in a festival. He thought the world of him, and he played several J.P, songs. Spencer Phelps ok. Here goes. This was related to me by Iris at a concert no too long after the song was released. John called Iris to ask if she would sing on a song with him for his next album. She said she heard John’s wife Fiona in the background shouting at her that she better read the lyrics before she agreed! Iris said it didn’t matter to her what it was, she trusted John. Then when he sent her the words/demo/whatever it was she did kind of blush at actually recording it. You should check out Elizabeth Cook and John’s version.
