I was in Basic at Ft. Polk May through June 1975. D-4-1. I never hear this song but I can see it through my eyes way back then in the top bunk on the second floor of the WWII era barracks...right before being roused for my turn at "Fire Watch."

Absolutely the, by far and away, most beautiful song ever written about two kids masterbating. In a class by himself. Twain, Dylan and Will Rogers, rolled into one. Tennessee Williams without the drama. I don't think John had a concept of how deep he was to so many people. He couldn't have possibly interpreted his songs in the many ways his fans have through the years. Captured in the moment, yet timeless. I hope you know John just how impactful you have been to me and my family.

The first song I ever learned on guitar was by Mr. John Prine. From there I went on to learn a bunch more including this one, always a crowd favorite. You could almost never go wrong singing a John Prine song... That is unless you were to sing "Paradise" for a room full of coal miners! They sure got mad, and let us know. Guess they didn't like the truth.
