There will never be another John Prine. I followed him since 1973 . His death has really broken my heart 💔 He was an incredible song writer and had most awesome talented voice. R.I.P. John it won’t belong before Jesus comes to take us all home 🙏🏽 forever you’ll have a special place in my heart ♥️

It took me damn near 50 years to find the music that effects me to my core. The first time I really listened to John Prine, I was completely blown away. He drew from a deeper well of emotion than anyone I'm aware of, and he made it seem effortless. The man was incredibly gifted, and his final album was as good as his debut. We've lost some amazing songwriters in the last few years. Guy Clark was a tough one, Merle, but none hit harder than John Prine. He was gaining steam at 72, and cut down so quick.

I love this song, it puts me to mind of my dad. His grandpa was a carpenter who took him, his sister, and brothers on along with his granny to raise. My dad loved them more , I think than he could say. His grandpa died of a heart attack with his head laying in my dads lap on the way to the hospital. My dad was a heck of a guitar picker, and a preacher. Him and his older brother both played the guitar as did their dad. Wow! Sorry about rambling on, but I sure miss him.

One of the best singer/songwriters and a nice guy. I ran into him at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville in the 90’s. He was there just to listen. Got a photo with him. A huge loss to the world. His music will live on.

Oh, grandpa wore his suit to dinner Nearly every day No particular reason He just dressed that way Brown necktie and a matching vest Both his wingtip shoes He built a closet on our back porch And put a penny in a burned-out fuse Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses, stores and banks Chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level And shaved even every door And voted for Eisenhower 'cause Lincoln won the war Well, he used to sing me "Blood On The Saddle" And rock me on his knee And let me listen to the radio Before we got T.V. Well, he'd drive to church on Sunday And he'd take me with him too! Stained glass in every window Hearing aids in every pew Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses, stores and banks Chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level And shaved even every door He voted for Eisenhower 'cause Lincoln won the war Now my grandma was a teacher Went to school in Bowling Green Traded in a milking cow For a Singer sewing machine Well, she called her husband "Mister" And walked real tall and proud And used to buy me comic books After grandpa died Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses, stores and banks Chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level And shaved even every door And voted for Eisenhower 'cause Lincoln won the war

It's an absolute shame to a great legendary singer/song writer that they used the covid farce as the cause of his death.

“Grandpa Was a Carpenter” Boy THAT was fun! What a great talent and what a great guy John Prine was! Thank you so much for posting this. Aren’t we fortunate to live at a time when so many performances were recorded and to have a forum like this to share them with each other? 🧨🧨

Another heartbreaking loss...John's music sure influenced my growing up and never got to say thanks except buying all he ever put out for sale and bootleg's too. i can recall his words to songs without looking them up and same for Dylan..it must be that i have same frequency? desolation row, sam stone, lily rosemary and jack of hearts still remember lyrics but can't tell you what day it is..hummm John will continue to sing in my house till its my turn to "step over" that rainbow...
