I wonder if John Prine ever watched all these vintage videos on KZbin that he may have missed first time around. I'd like to think he did. I saw JP three times in the 2 years before he died, and he always paid tribute to his friend 'Stevie' Goodman. 2 legends. Together again I hope.

There is a sweet, short documentary here somewhere about Steve Goodman, featuring interviews with John Prine, Arlo Guthrie, Kris Kristofferson, Steve's widow, and his manager. Kristofferson has to stop talking at one point, because he starts crying. I was blessed to see Steve perform at the Moore Theater in Seattle in the mid-70s. He played solo for three hours, with one little break. What a treat that was!

I never knew who John Prine was until I heard of his passing. I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to music. I have been exploring John's music for the last 4 weeks and I can say that he, without a doubt, has become my most favorite song writer of all time. Such simple song structure with such a powerful message. I'm sad I never got to see you perform John. I hope you are having your vodka and ginger ale next to peaceful waters.

A musical void that may never be filled, sad, yet powerful, sweet, and somehow strong. I used to play Johns songs in bars back in the 70's as a much younger man when not many knew of him. Now, as I approach 70, I feel once again drawn to the truthful lyrics and earthy performances that he blessed us with. Thankful that I got to see him perform live a couple of times. RIP.

John ended the song with tears streaming down his face. THIS MAN IS REAL. Love you John.

I had the pleasure of seeing John and Steve together at Milwaukee's Summerfest on the Country Stage. Steve told jokes about his leukemia (dude had a dark sense of humor). Damn! Steve Goodman was a one-man-band! What a beautiful voice, incredible guitar. This love song was such an incredible addition to Souvenirs with John Prine. Souvenirs was obviously a product of Steve's lyrical genius. Every song Prine produced with Goodman was priceless. You're the Girl I Love is beyond compare.

John wrote those lyrics. Steve Goodman was a hell of a writer, and guitar player though.

Souvenirs was a John Prine song. He wrote it. Steve Goodman wrote so many songs for others. You’d be amazed to see how many. John Prine and Steve Goodman were among some of the very best.

Just found this gem. I've listened to Prine and Goodman for many years (I'm 76), wishing I had even a small fraction of their gifts. Steve's solo breaks here were a mystery to me until now. Hopefully I can learn something worthwhile of their music and their lives. Rest easy...the music will go on forever.
