My 81 year old mother tells me that when I was about 3 years old (50 years ago) that I used to march all around the house when she played this song - the Johnny Horton version. John Rich does a great job here and of course Marty Stuart is a genuis of music, art and soul.

Love both these guys!! Tried to get my 9 year old to learn a litle history thru this song and he didn't want to hear it, so I said "hey, you want to hear a song about an alligator getting blown up"? He was on that!! Loved it and had me make it my ringtone! Guess it is just all in the presentation!!

And I personally believe John Rich would become ten times more popular if he became a singer like Merle Haggard, one who fights for the health of America in his music. This cover and Shuttin' Detroit Down could be starts.

Just accept the fact that you couldn't take America then and you couldn't take us now either.

Blaine Carey G'day Blaine.Britain made Australia New Zealand & Canada free lands and also shaped America to be free. Its just that Britain Australia NZ and Canada are like 50 years ahead socially. Also at the time of the battle, Britain was in all corners of the globe anyway. We are all so alike and look at why everyone wants to live in the commonwealth, imagine if USA was part the empire all the the way from 1814 to the 1950's say. There would be not even half the problems the U.S have now, i am so safe in Australia you would not believe we are so free right now and definitley brave. NZ UK CANADA likewise, more people were shot to death in Chicago than in the 3 countries listed in a year. Thats Crazy kiddo! I love America and how we have a special relationship. I love this song and listen to it all the time. We need to get over one battle that took place 200 years ago. We have fought a lot of battles together 'defeating' enemies that want to bring harm to our free land's.

Good version... besides the original, Johnny Horton, I would also recommend Sha Na Na's cover, with Screamin' Scott Simon on banjo and lead vocals.👍

I'm a Brit who likes this song. I think of it as an anti imperialist song (hope I'm right). John Rich has a good voice. Shame about his right wing politics though.

I give credit to Big and Stupid for coming on Marty's show and singing a good song, something he doesn't do for a living. But very disapointed in Marty saying, "I love everything you're doing today." To me, Marty's show is the bulwark and antidote to all the crap that guys like him are doing today.
