My college choir did this the semester before I joined. This is the first time im listening to this and it makes me wish i joined choir a semester earlier. We did Fauré's Requiem the semester I joined.

Fauré’s Requiem is one of the best major works I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing! My community choir got to do both Fauré’s requiem and Rutter’s Requiem the same semester and it was AMAZING.

I've just read a quotation from Richard Strauss about Stravinsky's "Firebird". I can imagine William Walton saying this to John Rutter: "it's always interesting to hear one's imitators". I have huge respect for Rutter's smaller works and carols - really special and individual. But this is just a repeat of what Walton did in "Belshazzar's Feast".

I struggle to find a shred of spirituality in this Gloria. It is a purely academic exercise.

Not a very interesting piece. Imitative of so many English composers of the mid-twentieth century. It may be fun for the choir to sing, but not much of a joy for the audience.
