Learning that Johnny was an orphan by 15 and had to support himself at that point really gives new meaning to the song for me. He probably related to the Jim character and was able to write a song that goes a bit deeper than a lot of the songs that get written for animated films.

I am a question to the world, Not an answer to be heard Or a moment that's held in your arms. And what do you think you'd ever say? I won't listen anyway… You don't know me, And I’ll never be what you want me to be. And what do you think you'd understand? I'm a boy, no, I'm a man.. You can't take me and throw me away. And how can you learn what's never shown? Yeah, you stand here on your own. They don't know me 'cause I'm not here. And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can the world want me to change? They’re the ones that stay the same. They don’t know me, 'Cause I’m not here. And you see the things they never see All you wanted, I could be Now you know me, and I'm not afraid And I wanna tell you who I am Can you help me be a man? They can't break me As long as I know who I am And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can the world want me to change? They’re the ones that stay the same. They can’t see me, But I’m still here. They can’t tell me who to be, ‘Cause I’m not what they see. Yeah, the world is still sleepin’, While I keep on dreamin’ for me. And their words are just whispers And lies that I’ll never believe. And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can they say I never change? They’re the ones that stay the same. I’m the one now, ‘Cause I’m still here. I’m the one, ‘Cause I’m still here. I’m still here. I’m still here. I’m still here.

I love how I listened to this song when I was young, and back then, I could only think how well it went with the movie. Now that I listened to it again, not only is it my favorite song, but a wonderful band, but I've also heard the words this time around. I feel it's the theme song to so many teenagers, such as myself. So, correction to the one lyric in the song. "I'm alone." Because no, as shown many times below, I am NOT alone. Love the song.

I first heard this song when i was like 15 years old in 2004 from my mother who loved Goo Goo Dolls and this was their frontman Johnny Rzeznik's solo song he did for Disney's Treasure Planet. Its because of my mom that I love Goo Goo Dolls to this day and im 34 years old now. This was one of her favorite songs by them and its one of my favorites as well. A beautifully written song. I seen nearly 20 years ago on the Disney Channel that Disney interviewed Johnny Rzeznik personally about this song and its meaning and so on. It was a Disney Channel special that went on around the time Treasure Planet came out. I know I just contradicted myself or changed up my story it seemed but the interview that Disney did with Johnny Rzeznik didnt play the entire song. Only bits and pieces of it as if they didnt want to completely spoil it.
