Merchandising and making movies like this known are tough. If they felt like it was going to sink, it's almost like "why even try?" But even when studios make something they aren't too proud of, it's nice to know that there's people who care about films and shows like these

Treasure Planet failed because Disney wanted it to fail. Treasure Planet was the last 2D film Disney did. They weren't interested in old school animation anymore, they were headed into the computer and 3D era. They deliberately under advertised the film and then the trailers they released told the whole story of the movie. Disney wanted it to flop as an excuse to leave 2D animation behind. And it worked.

Yet once I got my godfather he actually showed me how to be a man. Taught me how to stand up for myself and work my ass to get what I want. Working a 9 to 5 making it for my own little family like it's a trip. Yet God decides to take him away from me. Even a year without him on this earth and it kills me each day, yet I stay strong. It really makes me appreciate that i have a father who will do anything for me and will always be there. Silver is the father that Jim deserves, for even after he could have everything he searched for his entire life, he chose the young man he quite accidently became a father figure too. The creators of this tried a half dozen times to get Disney to let them make this. After a deal was struck, and then carried out, rand they finally finished, Disney execs damn near set this movie to fail. It came out right after the first Harry potter movie! They had he results from customers saying this would make a great summer movie, and ruined it by realising it in December! Not to mention the simply atrocious ad Campign. It’s crazy I watched this as a child and now 25, in the military and this will still bring a tear to my eye. God speed to you all
@SuperCookiemonser6 жыл бұрын
You don't really know what it's like if you never grew up with one. If you don't have any memories. When you get older you star to think and you just wonder. So many questions so little answers. But sometimes, it is better not knowing your dad. He has to live up to expectations and if he does not live up to that, he might dissapoint you. I can relate to that song a lot, it actually helps me to soothe the pain, this whole "daddy issues" thing just resurfaced recently. I have somebody that is like Silver in my life but this whole thing is still a trauma I never got over. Because you are always asking yourself why he is not there. Why he did not call you in all these years and why he threw you away like a broken toy. And that is the question that is killing me. A answer will not always bring you salvation, because he might not even have the guts to admit he did something bad.

it was a beautiful movie, also had one of the best type of villains: the humanized ones, at the end of the day NOBODY believes himself to be the bad guy, everybody does things and feels they're justified to do them, so the fact you could see more of Long John Silver helped to view him not only as a villain, but as a person, certainly much better than the moustache-twirling type of villains (if anything i'd say he was an anti-villain to some extend, the guy didn't wanted to hurt anyone but was willing to do what he needed to do to reach his goal, and once he did all he wanted to do was retire and live a good life) xD

What I love most about this movie is the idea behind of it. Jim has no friends, no goals in his life, no motivation and he is straight on his way into jail. And despite all that he get's 1) a chance and 2) advanced unconditinal trust. The pirates and the - back than - very futuristic art and everythings else make this movie 'cool' - but brilliant about this film is, that Jim realises, that he can do great, if he tries hard. He is able to figure out for himself, that he can have his place in a group of people, that he can be important for others - if he gives his best. He learns to be reliable, he proves to be worth the trust given, he shrugs of the mistrust and non-membership and the feeling of not beeing good enough (not even good enough to make his father stay with him) and the hurt of many past years. Even if things do not work out the way he want's then to (Mr Arrow) Jim is able to voice the turmoil inside of him, something he wasn't able to do before. And even when betrayal (Silver) hit's home he has come so far, that he understands that this betrayal has nothing to to with him. And slowly the chance given and the trust given make him into a young man with enough self confidence to find open doors, to realise that bad/sad things just happen in life and that most of this things are not his fault and therefore he must not take the blame, that there is so much that he can do, and so much about himself he can be proud of and so he makes his own way into a better, happier future. The moral of Treasure planet is -to put it in Silvers fatherly words - that everybody can 'rattle the stars' even a nobody, hopeless, futureless, good-for-nothing kid - which Jim thinks he is - if they try hard and give their best. What an absolutely brilliant and loveable message to every kid and every teen out there who has - not jet - found their way/their place. And don't even start to argue with me about how such stuff only plays out well in Disney movies. Because Mark Sinclair + brother + friends broke into a Theater to vandalize it. They got caught. The theater's artistic director didn't call the police, but offered them roles in the theater's upcoming show. That would be 1) Chance and 2) advanced unconditional trust. Mark Sinclair - better known as Vin Diesel - is the living proof that an adults parental kindness and belief can make a very huge impact on a youngster striding a bit far from the sidewalk.

something about steampunk not being populair anymore. movies looked a lot more realistic and disney decided to do the same because of money. not sure if that's the truth though, it's just a rumour.

BABY ALEX yeah the main reason is profit. They were clearly good movies, but people just didn't appreciate them. And kids now a days like nonsense like teen titans go, so we may never get movies like this again.

If you cry to a fucking Disney movie you are not prepared for this world. If you started crying over anything like a movie just a couple hundred years ago, you would be fucking hung. This is pussy on a whole new level.

I know it's something that passes quickly but I love the small details of young Jim stumbling and how frantically he's trying to catch his dad only to miss by a few seconds. Like it's very small thing to animate the little things make a big difference

frozen is a damn joke with laughable vocals. i hated the singer of the let it go song. to screechy.... ://// it's for children moana is damn good. really really good. it's about a culture lost because of fear more than anything. it wasn't about moana per se but their tribe. it was a solid movie with deep memorable characters. treasure planet was back in the day when children were emo, deep, like the mc of this show. i really rewally love this damn fuckng movie. boy or girl, as long as the movie is engaging, the characters are real and deep - is good enough. there's no goddamn "grand" revelation/message we're supposed to consume. just a journey, a great adventure with a ton of damn growth. but then again these are kid shows... we're criticizing these films with an adult's eye. haha
@PnkSamurai006 жыл бұрын
@@jeromejoz5935 everything that you said I agree with. For me even though these are considered child movies. I am a big fan of EVERYTHING ANIMATED. So yes I do tend to criticize regardless. They know that kids arent the only ones watching this stuff. Especially if your a BIG fan of Disney movies or you grew up watching Disney Movies. Basically there is something for everyone and thats what I like. Especially in this movie. Whether you had a father or lost one and is looking for your identity and where you fit in society, then this movie has got it. So yes this will always be one of my favs. Plus the soundtrack is hella good. Lol

Treasure Planet remains one of my favorite Disney films ever made, right up there with Atlantis. Such a beautiful film. If it came out today, it would ABSOLUTELY smash the box office. This is the kind of movie we need from Disney again.

Danilo Morita because compared to most movies of this era targets Children heavily with things in the movie that wouldn't fly over the head of a child and Simple story's with Playful action but treasure planet did Strike children but it went deeper and had more meaning to it than most Movies today so that's kinda why it isn't

1000% one of the most underrated Disney movies ever created! I mean, i still to this day can't come up with a better moral and relateable family story in any other Disney movie. Just the fact, that this movie evolves around what is still some of the most common family issues in the world, makes it way more important, relateable and useful for kids and even adults to watch, since many unfortunately, can relate to the one or more of these family issues: The clash between parents and teenager. Parents feeling helpless about their teenager. Being a teenager not fitting in, not living up to the parents expectations. Growing up with only one parent. Going from kid to adult. I think any of us can relate to at least one of these struggles. Im ashamed of myself, that i don't remember and watch this movie more often! It definately deserves more attention!

this is one of those movies I really desperately wanted to watch when i was a kid but never got to. Now as an adult, i finally have access to watching it but I wont feel that same magic as i would watching it if i was still a kid. Now excuse me while i go cry my life away...

I realized that Jim and I share many qualities.(along with appearances) His father probably left for the same reason mine did. too much responsibility to care for a child he had with a woman he didn't really love so he threw himself into his work (my dad works on a boat which made this movie even more relatable) only coming home for maybe three days a week, then two then he gets aggravated because he "can't get any rest" and then one day just leaves and never comes home again
@felynecomrade6 жыл бұрын
someone awesome My father's father did that. Just up and fucked off when my dad was about 11. He left my grandmother to look after his 5 bastard sons. He was also a drunk, a racist and domestically violent. That's something this movie really touched on that I can't think of any other Disney movie doing. Sometimes it's not a plot of sabotage, or a disaster, or an accident. Sometimes it's as simple and painful as the people who should be there for you just aren't, and through no fault of your own you just don't get the love and support other people get.
