Part 5: • John Salley on Kobe Ra...
Part 3: • John Salley: Kobe Told...
Part 1: • John Salley on His Mom...
In this clip, John Salley reacted to Gilbert Arenas' story about Kobe refusing to speak for weeks after Michael Jordan told him he'd never fill his shoes. Kobe dropped 55 points in the next game against the Wizards.
John Salley also illustrated Kobe's work ethic by recounting a story about taking Kobe to the club in Miami. According to Salley, Kobe ended the night rather early in order to get some rest before training at 6AM.

Kobe was the closest thing we've ever seen to Jordan, and even though he didn't win 6 titles Kobe's work ethic was 2nd to none, not even to his idol! What makes me even prouder is he was just as good a father than athlete and that says so much more about the man! You can tell Kobe enjoyed doing that, especially when he stood over Jordan. Jordan was past his prime obviously, but still an all-star player so it was still impressive. Jordan is regarded as the goat, but I think Kobe was a lot closer than a lot of people give him credit for. I believe it was Mark Jackson that said Kobe was the best 'tough shot maker' of all time and I agree.

Jordan was a Small Forward in WAS, with Rip Hamilton at Shooting Guard. Kobe put numbers up against Rip Hamilton and Jerry Stackhouse... Jordan averaged in WAS: 22.9 PPG/ 5.2 APG/ 5.9 RPG/ 1.4 SPG his first season. That will get you a max contract nowadays. Then came back and put up: 20.0 PPG/ 6.1 RPG/ 3.8 APG/ 1.5 SPG.

Jordan at that time in his career had zero chance of holding Kobe. Just like any player in their mid or upper thirties wouldn't. It's not running away, its common sense. You can't do it like that anymore. People will get on Lebron for not guarding Kawai when it doesn't make sense. One player is around 27 and the other is 35 with close to the most minutes ever played.

There is taps of Dr. J. He played in the 70s, 80s, and I think some of the early 90s. How young do you think MJ is??? I'm really not sure how old MJ is is, but my guess is that he was born in the late 60s to early 70s. With that being said I think MJ got to see enough of Dr. J to consider him his favorite basketball player, if indeed he is MJ's favorite basketball player. Think about it. Him and John Salley are roughly in the same age bracket. So how can Dr J be John salley's favorite basketball player if your understanding of why he can't be MJ's favorite basketball player holds water??? I'm going to need an answer for that one.
