ABOUT THIS CONCERT
SFJAZZ has maintained a long relationship with John Scofield, and this Fridays at Five streaming concert is presented in tribute to this artist who ranks among the most influential jazz guitarists of the last four decades, and would have been performing in June as half of a duo with bass giant Dave Holland during the 38th San Francisco Jazz Festival.
Similarly, Scofield and the all-star funk juggernaut Lettuce have had a lengthy connection built on a deep and abiding love of soul. The guitarist appeared as a special guest on the band’s 2002 debut, and in addition to drummer Adam Deitch lending his monstrous grooves to tours and recordings with Scofield, they’ve rejoined forces over the years, never better exemplified than in this incendiary set recorded in March, 2019.
