John was and still is so much a part of the romance between me and my beautiful wife of 47 years. We met and went to a John concert and we’ve been together since that day. We miss you so much John. God bless you for being such an important part of our lives.

I knew John how lucky was I booked him with the Kingston Trio in 1997

It broke my heart when I first saw this. I had met John several times, in Southern Ohio in college, in San Francisco and Santa Cruz and loved his music. He was the ultimate folk singer, true poet and a marvelous guitar player. Maybe it's me, but he's singing his own eulogy here. His face is bloated, his voice is strained from all those years on the road, which he hated. But the heart of John Stewart was the equal of any man. The world is lesser for your passing, but at least we have this - if you should remember me, a cowboy waiting for the light. This gets me every time.

From the Roostertail nightclub with the Trio until last seeing him in Denver in 2006, he was true to himself and his craft. His body of work should be recognized as a great singer/songwriter of Americana.

What a well-written, appropriate and touching comment. For sure, heaven is a better place with John's presence. Simply put, John Stewart improved my life for over 40 years.

I've noticed that most of these comments are very old. I saw John countless times in the Phoenix area. Till this day he is still a national treasure. RIP John, you have always touched my soul.

What a great clip. I wish I could have seen him in concert one more time. I still can't get over his death. He was one of my greatest heros and now he's gone. I will never stop playing his songs - he has been a big part of my life. Rest in Peace John Stewart.

I will remember this Cowboy in the Distance. It is very seldom a man with this talent comes our way. I had the opportunity to see him in Atlanta in the 70's. A comet that has passed our way and gone to soon.

What a gent. I spent so many enjoyable hours listening to him, from July Your a Woman which I played countlessly while in Vietnam to the rest of his works. The world is a better place because of him. You can't go back...... but you can smile. Thanks for posting

John Stewart should have been up there with Johnny Cash and other greats. He was great, too, but never truly recognized as such during his lifetime. He was authentic and profoundly talented. It is so unfortunate the world has taken the lesser trail: That of decadence, because, all thing being equal, John Stewart, a singer with a clean conscience, should by have been rediscovered by the newer generations.

the thing is we can remember him and be excited by his honesty on any given sad day and smile just a little bit

I I watched his wife hand him lunch through the window on the MTA- I watched from up on the rail as he drove the OLD Champaigner , drove her stone blind, and I saw the little red bird just now - My roots are deep in the California Bloodlines, I loved a Wheatfield Lady, I saw him live at the Santa Monica Civic in 1976, one of our true American Legends, not for what he died "from" but what he lived FOR !!!!

John Stewart is really missed. Very good person. Missed his Novato show. I know John did like preformed but everyone surely appreciated. Way back when at Chuck's Cellar was the best. Poor but always went to see John except Las Vegas. Yeah, Las Vegas. John was always modest and nice. Buffy too. There are strange rivers!

Oops ...did not like to perform...but at the small shows he always seemed at ease. I never knew. Raven in Healdsburg was very special. Survivors in the time of Trump.

@@leojakubowski9800 great call on John's preference for venues where he could connect one-on-one with our souls. I saw him many times, most often at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, but the smaller venues in which I saw him - the Catalyst in Santa Cruz comes immediately to mind - brought out his best, I thought. Somebody mentioned earlier, much earlier, reiterated my thought that a biography needs to be written about him. I've thought about that myself, and it needs to be done before people forget who he was and how richly he lived his life.

would add to his great venues The Four Muses in San Clemente, and The Back Door at San Diego State, early 70;s.

I was watching/istening to one of those music channels that have the facts every 30 seconds. Gold came on and only one fact about John came on. The rest was about stuff from the era. I was sad to see he passed as I looked him up. He was a talent. RIP John.

Paul, it was good to meet you. I can't thank you enough for uploading this wonderful song. I think of it as John's eulogy, as if he had a premonition of his own death. I've listened to John's music for over 50 years and loved every song, for they always gave me joy. He truly was my hero and I was stunned on the news of his death. Worry not John wherever you might be, your music lives on with me.

Indeed, you're right. Anyway, I'm pleased to see that John Stewart's got such a crowd of devoted listeners. Over here in Holland I'm about the only one, I guess. Apart from that horrible 'Gold' he never got any airplay. "Shoot all the brave deejay's and how will we ride."
