hm. again, I must thank you for your insightful and correct reading of my work. not every issue landed as well as every other for you but your brain was engaged and, for me, that's 90% of the point. Plus Marco and Mike went IN on this issue and that was very much part of the point too. Glad you mostly dug it, Dan. And for the stuff you didn't dig, I'm glad you understood it. I'll be finishing out the annotations, by the way. stay tuned. happy new year.

I agree that it is sad that this issue needed to be compressed. Ironically, though the god of nostalgia is the enemy, this whole series fed the nostalgia I had the for the GL Mosaic run of the 1990s. I never believed I would see a follow up! I did go into this issue thinking that Ilo's mother would be dead since that was the case in the GL Future State issues. Those Future State Thorne stories read even better now because of the all the characters that they introduced that were then featured in the main run.

The was more to this story than just the surface. Just prior to recording our latest episode, I began to see some of the Thorne's commentary within this run. There's a knowledgeable critique of modern fandom here.

I didn’t hate the original 12 issues, but they sure were hit or miss. But this issue was actually really good. Thorne was finally about to cut loose just as he was cut short. I would want to see more of this story.

@@zackeryparkerson I really would have liked that 2nd arc with Kyle. Thorne's premise sounded intriguing.

It’s a good insight into corporate dealings behind the scenes of comic book companies with Thorne detailing those. We want to blame the writers solely for how their version or the version of the story that ultimately comes out with their name on it but we don’t think about the bigger picture or what could go on behind the scenes of these things like most art pieces or business dealings perhaps. We now know his vision and version are different than what was put out in the end to a degree and every detail matters to an overall story. Sure, with what he did come to with and present to us could’ve been better but it wasn’t all his fault or dealings either and thusly blame shouldn’t fall solely on him alone for his series. I’m look forward to the future of GL and I hope the next writers do it Justice, but we’ll know when we get there.

A lot of people had complaints about Thorne’s run. Some of these complaints were valid, like how the pacing could feel glacial, and some of them were really stupid, like claims that Thorne wasn’t a Green Lantern fan for not liking Hal Jordan. At the end of the day, I hope this run can serve as a cautionary tale for how chaotic the inner workings of the American comic book industry can be and how writers can go in with one intention only to be thrust onto a much larger stage by the powers that be. I think, in this regard, Thorne’s Green Lantern has a lot in common with The Trial of Magneto. Looking towards the future, I’m glad GL is returning to a two-book structure. The extended cast is so large and filled with so many fan favorites, I would say you could print as many as five Green Lantern/Green Lantern related books at a time if the 2010’s hadn’t already proven me wrong with Red Lanterns and New Guardians. Still, two seems like a happy medium.

Wait but if the variant of John Stewart is going to the main dc universe what happens to the main John Stewart now because right now I am so confused what is even happening.

Seriously, Dan, you should have written this series because you explained this issue better than anyone else (Lonar is still a useless and lazy plot device who I hope to never see in comics again but at least there’s an explanation). Same with the entire series. I still hated this issue. I think John taking 2 years to defeat a guy he took down on his first day of ascension is ridiculous. John abandoning esak and going to oa in the first place was impulsive and out of character for John and then not bringing the corps back with him is just dumb and personally, makes John responsible for the death and destruction caused in those 2 years since any of 600 surviving lanterns could’ve helped. Generally, I think Thorne wrote John…wrong. This series is all about going against the status quo and embracing change but it feels like Thorne blatantly ignores 20 years of John’s history…out-of-spite. John is an ex-marine and was the leader of the corps. He’s not that impulsive to punch a new god in the past with nothing but the jump suit on his back or create cumbersome pirate swords for everyone instead of rings. He’s a strategist and one of the most brilliant minds in the corps.

Question for the next QnA: Is there a fictional race thats not from the DC universe that you would want to see as a Green Lantern ?

If hyper time is only a brief splinter of a timeline, wouldn’t they both be our John Stewart?
@MosaicComics

Technically yes. It's confusing, but it allows John's story to come to end without regressing him at all, AND lets DC restore his status quo if they want to, all at the same time, and for that I'll gladly take a little confusion.

I feel this is going to be used as an excuse to have John end up with Hawkgirl like the DCAU show. The reason hypertime John may have never met Katma Tui or blew up Xanshi, we don't know. John and Martian Man Hunter already worked through their issues of Xanshi during Scott Snyder's JLA run, so they have no reason to bring it up again. DCs Metal and Venditti's Hawkman established that Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman are two separate individuals now, meaning she is single. All they have to do is never bring up Fatality and her history with John. Then they can completely forget about Katma Tui and have John be with Hawkgirl. Personally I don't want this to happen but it will please all DCAU fanboys. I'm sure Esak the now New God of Nostalgia will be pleased lol

@@delli23 yeah but that was probably under Dan Didio when he was head of things at DC. With the Warner Discovery merge all those rules could be out the window.
