SK Cp3 never makes the finals bro. And also that’s true to have Karl Malone in his team is more easy but we can also say that he help Mailman to have his 36 000 points tho. Both of them helping each other because that’s a team sports. And yeah John Stockton don’t have a good left hand in his debut but still was a top 2 point guard in his era so this point is irrelevant.
@yvans.

SK but still a didn’t found any NBA finals of Cp3. And I’m agree with you cp3 is better than John but that’s not mean greater. When cp3 win or go in the NBA finals 2times you are going to have a point but Stockton for right now has a better career than cp3.

I really have no idea if some of you guys that are trashing Stockton are idiots or simply kids who hasn't watch him play. Sure...Oscar, Magic, Zeke, Payton, Kidd, Nash, CP3...soon to be Kyrie and so on. He wasn't exciting player to watch, but he was damn efficient player, true leader of his team and a real point guard. I think Kidd knows something about the game and his position right? Well he took Stockton in his all time TOP 5 on PG. Same as Magic who said me or Stockton. I think Magic knows pretty much about basketball. Payton who is one of the best defenders in the game ever said that Stockton was the hardest player to guard. What ever he would do or try on him during the game, Stockton would get his 15 and 12 and that he couldn't get in to his head no metter the trash talk. Some of you talk how he got his assist tnx to Malone?? So I guess Magic got his tnx to Kareem or the All Star team he had in L.A.and not 'cause he is perfect PG. Or anyone who plays with Jordan had to have 10-12ppg. Or at least anyone who played with Shaq right? Or some other super scorer or dominant player. And Malone is not on their level, he just had many season, no injuries amd was amazing player. Amazing. But not on their level. But let's putt that aside. Malone made Stockton and Stockton made Malone. Perfect match and duo. Bulls were my team, but I damn well respected Stockton in those finals and during his career. Wached the NBA since '89. He was calm, like I said very efficient, phenomenal defencive player. Not only 'cause of his steals, but he used his mind and his not really big and athletic body perfectly. Also he was the best in 4th quarter when Malone used to wanish or at least have problems and wasn't the best in 4th. Stockton's shooting % was great, especially in 4th. Game winner against Houston in WCF, cold blooded clutch three point to Bulls in game 6 in '98 final for +3 with 30 seconds left on the clock. If it wasn't for Jordan on the oposite side... who knows. But man used his body in a perfect way and was in a Dream Team, Utah SWEPT Lakers with Shaq and Kobe in WCF, he is named 50 all time best players, he was in two NBA finals and he is all time leader in assist by far and all time leader in steals. Also he playied in a lot more phisical era, with a lot more real Big man and a lot more real PG. Now you can pass the ball to Curry on 3point and have 5 assist only by that during the game. And if anything, he is underrated, not overrated. I think the best was Magic, my favorite was Kidd, but I guess everyone has the right to their own opinion. Mine and probably 90% of NBA players who saw him or played against him is that he is for sure in TOP 5 PG of all time, for most of them that I heard TOP 3 and the records speaks for them self. I my self would say TOP 5 for sure.

All great passers and arguably all closer to the 'pure PG' definition, which Stockton definitely was. I always wonder when I watch these highlights, how come when the point guard is dribbling in place waiting for the low post to gather position, the defender gives the point guard so much room to simply pass it in? And then what really confuses me is when they pick up their dribble and the defense doesn't pressure the dead ball? Always seems so strange to me when watching old highlights of perimeter players
@blakecombs1219
@blakecombs1219 6 жыл бұрын
The reason they sagged off so much was actually to try and disrupt the pass to prevent it from going inside. In the 80's, the game was as much about post offense and scoring inside as it is about shooting 3's today. Whereas now, you'd rsther give up a layup to Steph than let him shoot a 3, back then you'd rather let Stockton shoot a jumper than Malone have an easy look from 2-5 feet from the basket.

Court vision, toughness, IQ and team leadership. This is also around the time that Stockton became a starter and the transition to Stockton/Malone was becoming a fixture. Jazz would transform from a defensive team to an offensive team in the following years, largely because when Mark Eaton retired the Jazz wouldn't have another quality Center until Gobert many many years later.

Not doing anything flashy, but rather delivering pinpoint passes through tight windows, shooting 50% or better throughout most of his career, making the right and smart plays, and consistently leading the league in steals. Yeah, that's why he's arguably the greatest PG in NBA history. Beyond just the eye test though, his stats were off the charts...he was putting up ridiculous stats, such as dropping 20 points, 20 assists and 5-7 steals in some games.

Stockton is the 9th all-time highest True Shooting percentage leader for all positions of retired players. Stockton was just a pure PG. He had a pass first mentality, but would drain a shot on someone if it statistically made more sense than passing. All he cared about was winning, not about personal stats. Should also be mentioned that this game was when Stockton had basically become a starting PG. He was on the bench for years, which was common for new players back then. This is Stockton/Malone in their early days.
@sleepywolf82
@sleepywolf82 5 жыл бұрын
If Westbrook has a 52% fg percentage he wouldn't be hated. Stockton just knew how to play, when to pass, when to shoot, and when to average 4 steals a game.

Stockton is over rated, if you put any other point guard with the 2nd all time scorer in NBA history for 18 years straight you would be one of the top assist leaders. He is a great defender and pick and roll user, but he CANNOT use his fucking left hand to save his life. Anytime he has to go left he picks up dribble and looks for Malone. How do not develop your left hand. These are fundamentals.
@sleepywolf82
@sleepywolf82 5 жыл бұрын
And most NBA players can't even play a season without serious injuries. Stockton played 19 seasons straight with only like 20 games missed all time. The point is consistency, for 19 seasons they know he couldn't use his left hand.... And they still couldn't stop him. Something wrong with NBA? You mean magic, Jordan, shaq+Kobe all couldn't stop him? The Lakers dominant team got swept by the couldn't use fucking left hand guy, who did 25 points and 20 assists. Any OTHER point guard would have retired or got injured after 82 games and into the playoffs. Derrick rose? Injured. Kyrie? Injured. Aren't they overrated instead? John Stockton brought you to the playoffs every year for 19 years, for 182 games. And guess how much he was paid every year? He didn't get an agent, he dealt directly with management. He gave the Utah jazz the best chance to win every year. Being a small market, if the Utah jazz had paid to bring in a better bench, another superstar, build a big 3 like Jordan/pip/rodman he would definitely have gotten a ring. If anything, averaging 15 points, 15 assists, 4 steals, 58% fg percentage would be insane today. I don't know how you can overrate that.

None of these assists are all that hard, a surprising amount of them are more a result of the person he passes to being a good scorer he's not creating offence like a Nash or Curry or Cp3, honestly rather underwhelming, he's not "making them better" he's just giving them the ball and while being a willing passer is always good it's not being a good passer
