Travolta has always struck me as one of the kindest, most respectful stars the last 40 plus years. His life has had so much sadness and anguish, losing his girlfriend, actress Diana Hyland, to cancer in 1977 then losing his son and finally last year losing his wife Kelly Preston, also to cancer. Such pain and anguish I cannot imagine. I don't give a rat's ass about his religion or his sexual preferences. I judge him by the way he conducts himself and how he treats others. For that, he's first rate in my book. And a Jersey boy like me!

He is excellent, under rated. I think it's trendy by critics to pan him now. Too bad. Did you see him in Gotti? Superb! I read and watch a lot of true crime and have come across the Gotti story many times. Travolta nailed him. So did John's wife as Gotti's wife. User reviews were mixed. But even many of the one's who were not happy with the movie raved about Travolta's performance. The complaint was that this movie was not as good as some other favorite mobster movie, or that it didn't cover some particular aspect of his life. Well, you only have 2 hours (seems shorter) to squeeze in everything? Not going to happen. If you pay attention, there are several places where a few lines cover something in his life. Don't miss it.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s was so much fun. Millions of post World War 2 born in the mid and late 40s. They had to build elementary schools like crazy in California. I went to kindergarten at one school then moved over to the new school one block from our house. I smile remembering it all. All the neighborhood kids played baseball in the middle of the street or in a vacant lot. Cards hooked on our bike wheels with clothes pins. It was wonderful. Typical new suburb. Loaded with kids! Trick or tweet was MASSIVE! LOL! Great memories of the dances and all the rest.

My dad once met John Travolta staying at a Hampton Inn. He asked him why he didn’t stay at a nicer hotel and he said because at nice hotels people know he’s John Travolta but at Hampton Inns people just assume he’s some guy who looks like John Travolta. He was super nice to my dad and chatted for a bit while waiting on a car.

How exciting that your dad met John Travolta at a Hampton Inn! Admittedly Hampton Inn’s aren’t “THE RITZ CARLTON”😂 but that chain is definitely not a “Red Roof Inn” 😂either! Ha! Guess you wouldn’t expect to see him there but honestly, I used to book lots of big stars( played at a area venue ) for yrs & yrs. Many expressly asked to have them booked in at a Holiday Inn etc “EXACTLY FOR THAT REASON.” Fans would not look for them there but assumed the star would be staying at THE SHERATON OR at “The Four Seasons.” They seldom checked the “Holiday Inn Holidome” or at the Holiday Inn( both very nice but not on anyone’s radar for big stars staying there). It is definitely believable to me & makes sense, as down to earth as John Travolta is, to fly under the radar staying at a Hampton Inn( very nice chain). What an amazing experience for your dad!

John Travolta is like Gene Kelly. He makes your heart flutter and makes you wanna get up and dance with him. He has joy passion and soul when he dances. Sure Fred Astairs was eloquent, graceful and light but, I would watch Gene Kelly over Fred anyday. John really has the whole package! Fred and Gene qualities combined when John dances! Classic and eternal! He is my favorite dancer of all time.

I was in my teens when Saturday Night fever was released and Grease…. I had his poster on my wall and I still have a place for him in my heart. He is part of my youth, when I went to the disco's in my hometown and danced while the Bee Gee's sang. And I still think he has a sweet smile….

At the time he had no toupee and just some sparse hair on top. Takes guts to put that out there. No vanity at all. Great guy.

The range of his acting includes being a good guy, evil guy, musical/dancing guy, comic guy, drama guy,, romantic guy, action guy among others. “Grease” stands out in my mind, and I will always tune in to a movie starring John Travolta. He’s gorgeous no matter what his hairstyle is!

Yes! Welcome back Kotter" was the first sitcom we loved as kids , great show which we used to try reenacting at school, unsuccessfully, because art doesn't re-enact in real school life. We would try to copy the Jersey accent, and be all cool and 'Merican, which didn't always go down well with the teachers, understandably. A few years later, SNF was released, and a group of us lads n lasses (aged 13/14) went to the cinema in Tsim Sha Tsui (underneath Ocean Terminal) to see the film, which was the first time we arranged (by word of mouth at school breaktime/lunchtime, and by the trusted method of passing notes in class to solidify the plan) to see a film we were not supposed to, because it was rated unsuitable for our age group. We made sure to go in a group, there were 8 of us, so that if we were caught, we could share any potential bollocking from our respective folks, via safety in numbers "but there were 8 of us" malarkey. As it happened, none of our folks knew what we were up to, as we said we were going to "the Flicks" on Saturday, and in that "era", parents didn't ask perpetual questions about the flicks their teens might go to on Saturday afternoons. They were too busy doing their own thing on Saturdays in HK, and that applied to all of our folks, without a scintilla of accusation towards them for "failing to protect us". Cinema was a huge part of life in HK, often with elaborate handpainted signs put up in huge panels, rather than standard marketing posters from USA, and the tickets were sold from the kiosk outside, in the bustle of Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, you name it, it was all over HK, tickets sold in good faith to "the underage", but of course, the ticket seller is working by the hour, and couldn't care less to whom they sell tickets. Why would they? So this worked well for us. The film shocked us all, brought to see another person's life miles away from ours, but with feelings we felt. Having seen some comments by young folks recently about the movie, they seem a bit prissy. What did they expect? watch a movie about a Jersey lad and his friends in the seventies living their lives and dancing on a Saturday night competitively? There will be swearing, there will be a few sexual comments. "I didn't like the racism" is a futile comment I've read via teen reports these days, but what do these teens expect? A film in 1977, at the very fulcrum of Disco, based in New Jersey, with a cast and crew solid to the reality, if anything probably glossing over reality? I mean, come on. The movie is highly close to the truth in the family scenes, the bitter bitchery about putting food on the table and the chasm between Tony Manero and his father. Great acting, great scenes. JT is on a par with James Gandolfini, and long before him.
