McQ (1974) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #McQ
Two slain officers lie in pools of blood on the street. There's no pattern to the killings and police are confused and scared. Only after gunshots splatter his partner across a back alley and Detective Lon McQ himself narrowly escapes death does the bloody rampage make sense. Now McQ knows whom to go after. John Wayne thunderously enforces the law in a high-velocity thriller that's like a big-city revenge Western on wheels. Directed by action master John Sturges (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven).
Directed By John Sturges
Starring John Wayne, Eddie Albert, Diana Muldaur

Either John Wayne was an expert at depicting recoil or the just had him fire it with live rounds. Love that the suppressor didn't make that pixie fart noise
@michaelnaretto3409
@michaelnaretto3409 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking along those lines as well. My gut told me he fired it with live rounds just for that scene. Normally it is taboo to have live rounds on a set where there are scenes with gun fire. A mistake could happen. Anyway, I have fired Ingram's before and they are bullet hoses and not much good for anything. The suppressor does give it a menacing look....

@michaelnaretto3409
@michaelnaretto3409 3 жыл бұрын
@@winternow2242 Very little if any. A projectile is needed to direct back some of the gasses to run the action. Now, there may have been some sort of insert that blocked enough gasses to make it look like real rounds were being fired.

@doubleuponbob3397 3 жыл бұрын
John Wayne shot blanks in this scene, but had been trying to get the go ahead for live rounds. He was so irate with the producers that he deliberately took this scene over and over again for hours. That was his way of telling them off. Funny thing is; the take that eventually made the movie was among the first 5 takes he made.

Well, you weren't doing it right, then. I had a Mac11 for 35 years and never had a problem controlling it. But that is the key - you have to control it and not let it control you. It is an automatic weapon, so yeah, there is a spray and pray aspect to it. But it certainly doesn't have to be that big an issue if you just learn to control it. very easy to do. And I didn't have a huge suppressor on the front, either.

Racoon City, 1998. I just started my new job at the local police station. Unfortunately we were attacked by Zombies and I fired this gun in anger in the defense of my colleague and friends. That gun-shop is in downtown Seattle, less than 1.5 miles from the 'autonomous zone'...do you really want rioters to have ready access to ammo? Critics tore this film apart saying the Duke was too old to be acting in such an action film. However, he was originally offered the role of Dirty Harry, but turned it down (he probably regretted it when he saw how well it did!). At 0:53, you can notice a very slight cut, his position on screen changes a little bit further back. I guess they gave him blanks or inert rounds for the loading and handling of the gun and switched mid take for the real deal for the firing test. Those bullet holes on the can are not from squibs, that's for damn sure. Even in movies made today, the bullet holes aren't as good compared to these.

Back then they often used live ammo in movies. I used to know a man that worked on movie sets years ago. He said it was a very big deal about keeping the real guns and prop guns apart. Each live round had to be accounted for. The control over live ammo was more strict than the military. He said it was not uncommon to have someone from the ATF on the movie set. But no more. Now days it is all blanks and CGI.

It is not a machine gun. It is a sub machine gun. A machine gun fires rifle ammunition for engaging the enemy at long distance. A sub machine gun fires handgun ammunition for engaging the enemy at close range/close quarters. That MAC 10 he uses in that movie is either in .45 acp or 9mm. The lone wolf or vigilante cop movie was very popular in the 1970's. It all started in 1971 with Dirty Harry and continued with McQ and other movies as well.

I shot one with a suppressor in Las Vegas, and the cloth (Nomex?) insulator wrapped around the suppressor obscured the front sight, though it’s not like you’ll be using the sights much with that bullet hose. The suppressed S&W M76 I shot after the MAC-10 (basically an American version of the Swedish Type-K) was more accurate and fun to shoot with its lower cyclic rate, but without an insulator around the steel suppressor, I accidentally burnt my finger tip on it during the magazine change.

A deferment is asked for by the individual, the government does not bestow them onto people at random. He had the opportunity to join voluntarily, he didn't. He could have been drafted, he asked to be excused. Why waste your breath trying to defend the indefensible, especially when that person had no interest in defending America? Dont get me wrong, I do not think a lack of military service makes a person bad somehow, it's that he weezled his way out of service, then built a career playing a tough guy, with a large portion of his movies being military in nature. Thus, he is a fraud.
