"Parabellum" is derived from the Latin phrase, "para bellum" - prepare for war. As it applies to this series, Parabellum is part of the Latin phrase, "si vis pacem, para bellum" - "If you want peace, prepare for war." The connection to this movie should be clear, but it also tells us what Chapter 4 is about.

"Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum". Flavio Vegecio Renato, from his book "Epitoma rei militaris". That's the real phrase, but centuries of use ended summing it up in "Si vis pacem para bellum". When I was a teenager, we studied latín in high school, here in Spain. And this quote was a must every year in the first test. After all, we were Hispania for almost 800 years. Now they call it "death languages", and nobody is able to say "rosa-rosae-rosam". I bet John Wick speaks fluid latín.

The gun scene at 9:00 is a homage to a scene in the spaghetti western The Good, The Bad and The Ugly starring Clint Eastwood. One of the characters does essentially the same thing Wick does but not in combat. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was marketed as the third and final installment in the Dollars Trilogy, following A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. They are all fantastic and worth reacting to.

-I ended up getting into these movies after Chapter 2 thanks to Leva Bates, a female wrestler currently signed with AEW. She did a gimmick where she would cosplay for her matches. She is a huge fan of John Wick and talked about them on Twitter. After a while, I decided to check out the first one for Platelet day. I’ve been hooked ever since. I saw Chapter Three twice in the theatre just five minutes from my house. -I love how it starts right after Chapter 2 and start it off hot. It keeps the pacing of the previous movies -I still find it funny watching the Goldfish commercials and seeing Ernest. -I’ve loved how the John Wick world has been expanded with each movie. Chapter 1 keeps it local and just the Russian mob. In Chapter 2, they introduce “The High Table” and the idea of various mob groups being under it. In Chapter 3, all of that gets turned up to 11. -Big fan of Charon getting be more than just a concierge. -Mark Dacascos as Zero was such a great pick. I remember seeing him in the movie “Only The Strong” and thinking he could be that next martial arts action star. Years later, he played Eric Draven in the syndicated “The Crow: Stairway To Heaven.” Consider it a shock when he ended up doing “The Iron Chef.” -I rank this as my second favorite with the 1st one taking number one, which is knock on Chapter Two. It’s like scoring a 98% and getting the lowest grade. Chapter One was more about developing/introducing the character. Chapter Three was full on action. Chapter Two was the bridge between developing and action. -I have become a huge fan of the band Jinjer because of the song “Pisces.” There’s a part that I still have to brace myself for because it still gets me. I have to brace myself for it. When The Bowery King starts with “But this High Table Shit”, I still brace myself. As soon as John gives that “Yeah” at the end, I get giddy because I know what’s next: War on an insane level. -A major reason I’ve loved these movies is how they planned the endings. For Chapter One, they pretty much tied the entire thing up where, if the movie didn’t do well, they could just move on. It did well and led to Chapter 2 where they gave the viewer an ending teasing Chapter 3 but it could only happen if this one does well, which it did. As soon as the Bowery King started talking, I knew they already had Chapter Four planned. Days later, I saw where Lionsgate announced that they greenlit Chapter Four. -The Chapter 2 plan was even more brilliant. They made the movie they needed for Chapter Three. If Lionsgate decided not to green light it, they could just as easily take it to another studio like Fox or WB or Universal or whoever and for maybe more money. -The trailers for Chapter 4 are crazy. My favorite is the one where they use “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers because it is, from what I’ve taken in, a perfect description for this. It’s less than one month away.

Mark Dacascos was a brilliant casting choice for Zero. It's exactly the type of character he's known for playing - these stoic tough-guy types, even keeping a serious demeanor (if somewhat ironically) as "the Chairman" on Iron Chef. And while Mark is astonishingly hard working and can be absolutely laser-focused, he's actually super friendly & easygoing and has an incredible sense of humor, like, full-nostril chuckle-snort, laugh-so-hard-it-hurts funny. He has a genuinely warm, happy, uniquely quirky, "hang loose" kind of personality that's just super fun to be around, and it's crazy how it can sorta catch you off guard because it's so polar opposite of all the deadly-serious characters he so often plays. Now, I don't know if it was originally the plan with his character in this or not, but there are parts, like when he sits super-awkwardly close to Keanu on the couch, when he starts fan-boying hard about John Wick to John Wick, or when he applauds & gives a double thumbs-up after watching him kill a bunch of people, that make it seem like Mark was just being himself for a minute on set & having some fun with the scenes and they liked it so much that they decided to write it in to the character. Either way, it was cool seeing him be him a little bit, and watching him sorta go back and forth between the character and himself but still in-character all the while. That was fun.

I met Mark Dacascos who plays Zero. He was really chill, he told me two on set stories: 1.) During the scene where he sits down next to Keanu, he didn’t actually talk with him before that, so that scene was basically their official meeting, so he invaded Keanu’s space to fuck with him and make the scene more genuine🤣 2.) One day on set Keanu was getting ready to go home and the director said “Keanu we gotta film the glass fight.” Keanu was like “I thought that was tomorrow” and the director said “I moved it to today.” Then Keanu said “Excuse me for a sec.” He goes to the exit door, drops his stuff and then screams “FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!” then walks back and says “Ok I’m good, let’s go.” 🤣

Just a reminder from the end of movie 2, Winston gave John a marker. The giver of a marker cannot kill the receiver of the marker. So unless Winston is trying to break the rules, he cannot kill John until after John calls in the marker .
