POCculture.com interview with Hiroyuki Sanada, who stars as Koji Shimazu in John Wick 4!
Sanada talks about how he was almost in John Wick 3, but had to pass on the film due to an injury, and how excited he was to have the chance to revisit the franchise. In the film, Sanada has some epic scenes with Hong Kong legend Donnie Yen, and he broke down what it was like working with him; Sanada describes their working relationship as having a "chemical reaction."
Sanada also talks about the ways director Chad Stahelski allowed him to provide creative input on his character, including the fascinating story behind his character's name.

Hiroyuki Sanada is one of, if not my favourite Japanese character actors. Even without doing any martial arts, e.g. 'Sunshine' and 'The Railway Man'.

Hiro totally fascinates me. He’s so kind and so gentle and with such humility, then there’s the other person. Hiding beneath is such power and such strength and when it rises to the surface, you can see it in his face and his eyes and makes you back up and stop breathing. You see it in his character in “The Last Samurai”! It’s there in some of his photos too and it makes him so unusual and unique!!! 🌹🥰

I love this guy's work. But damn I think he's like 0-for-everything in movie samurai swordfights. 47 Ronin. Avengers Endgame. John Wick 4. He always loses. =(

If he was supposed to be Zero in John Wick 3, I'm sorry he was injured before shooting, but glad that he WASN'T Zero!! I HATE it when he dies!! And he does die in JW4!!! Such a waste!!
