I'll only add that the 9x19mm Parabellum round was developed specifically for the German Luger automatic pistol back when Germany was still an empire deriving its roots from the Holy Roman Empire, and so the Latin phrase paid homage to that. After the war it became by far the most popular 9mm round, and quite possibly the most popular pistol round of all time.

The gun stuff at the beginning when John Wick was crafting a revolver was a throwback/reference to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" when Clint Eastwood's character was cleaning his gun and heard people outside his door. The clicking revolver chamber was from the same movie when Eli Wallach made the same motion constructing his own custom revolver. EDIT: Also, Iron Chef doesn't f*ck around.
@henrybryant4380 Жыл бұрын
The clicking was so he could test the timing of the cylinder
@tuckerrichardson2606 Жыл бұрын
To add to the other comment on your post, what is timing? Which is what he was checking in the beginning. On a revolver this is all revolvers but older styles like the one in the movie especially, have allot of stuff going on inside them, the cylinder is basically the chamber of the weapon which houses the cartridge when firing, on other styles of firearm the chamber and barrel are of one piece so they are already aligned and ready to go but on revolvers the cylinder is the chamber and the timing of it is talking about how when you pull the hammer back the gears start moving is everything doing its job properly and aligning the cylinder with the barrel. If it is not timed properly then the cylinder will be either a little before or a little after the barrel, which can either mean a misfire at best or the bullet striking the side of the barrel at worst, resulting in a catastrophic failure that you do not want happening while its in your hand.

@jamessullivan4988 Жыл бұрын
The use of Parabellum (literally "for war") as a single word, related to firearms, appears to have originated with the branding of the 9mm Luger (9x19mm) cartridge in the early 1900s. It was...as observed by George...derived from the use of the Latin phrase "Si vis pacem, para bellum" ( if you want peace, prepare for war) which was used as a corporate motto of the manufacturer of the cartridge, and the Lugar pistol, German arms company Deuche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. Other rounds and weapons subsequently used the Latin "for war" moniker.

Oh when he was putting the revolver together, he heard how the magazine was clicking, to see how smooth it moved.

My favorite part is her realizing John probably wasn't dead.

Mark Dacascos character dying in a similar position to his Kenjiro Sanga character was a good touch as well.

George referring to the "Prepare for war" Latin phrase is "Si vis pacem, para bellum" meaning "If you want peace, prepare for war". Parabellum in this instance is in reference to the 9mm (9×19mm) Parabellum pistol cartridge. It was created by Georg Luger and is also known as the 9mm Luger. The "Parabellum" reference comes from the motto of Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken Aktiengesellschaft (German Weapons and Munitions Factory) which is "Si vis pacem, para bellum".

The fall is actually very much survivable but you'd need a few months in the hospital. He's not falling from ten stories. He's having several small falls onto the stairs, ceiling and alike, meaning he breaks bones but not ever getting enough speed to hit terminal velocity.

Seeing the whole knife scene in Dolby Cinema was insanely good. The sounds with the knife to the skull and the eye...

A strong theory for the end as to why Winston shot John is that it actually wasn’t a betrayal. Notice the concierge said, “Well played, sir.” to Winston as if Winston did in fact pull off a clever tactic. Notice Winston only shot John in the chest area where he’s wearing the armored suit. Winston could’ve simply shot John in the head and boom that’s it. But no, he shot him in the chest, leading him towards the side of HIS building where there were stairs and scaffoldings to “cushion” John’s fall giving him some form of survivability. Winston shot John only to keep up appearances for the adjudicator and the High Table. Winston is doing this probably to stay inside the High Table’s ranks just to keep up with intel.

I love how when Halle and Keanu are about to leave the mint one of the dogs jumps in the drivers window and Halle has to lean forward to give him room to get by. I don’t know if that was on purpose or if they were both supposed to go through the back window. Either way, I love seeing well trained dogs getting to show off their talents. Bite work training is so goddamn fun, as long as you aren’t the one catching the dogs lol

@George Parabellum, as one word, comes from the 9mm Parabellum pistol cartridge. Also known as 9mm Luger and 9x19mm or just 9mm, it is the most used amunition for pistols and submachine guns ;.... ... in the world.
