FWIW, none of the names of these tracks has any connection with the Yiddish culture that produced klezmer music. Moreover, with the exception of Beeroth, which is Hebrew for "wells", none of these words have any connection to any other Jewish culture either.

I remember seeing Zorn before Masada and after Blind Idiot God and Coleman work. And the audience laughing when he spat nastily "Jazz Snob Eat Shit" before they launched into some weird hybrid of a whole bunch of Modern jazz, rock, metal, blues, Gershwin, discordant shit.

for the masada tunes it's usually a lead sheet like you might see in a jazz real book with a head and maybe a few chords. However, it's Zorn's conducting and ideas that he communicates to the players that makes it sound the way it sounds.

Love Masada... Love the music and musicians... not crazy about all the Jewish stuff at the shows, sometimes... I don't care that they are jewish or 'radical jewish' culture. We are all human beings...
@JackDzik8 жыл бұрын
who said anything abt radical judaism my man?? the point of masada is to celebrate jewish identity & culture by intertwining klezmer & free jazz. do u get upset every time a specific culture is celebrated in music?? idk abt u but I love this klezmer stuff and im not even a jew... if u don't mess wit it then go bump his naked city stuff or book of angels;)
@benlorber21797 жыл бұрын
lol, deal with it
@TimothyBIinks6 жыл бұрын
And it's weird that you have a problem with them expressing their specific human identities as Jews. They should hide and refuse to celebrate their culture? That's fucked up.
@InsertName1256 жыл бұрын
Um… You realize what this entire project was about, right? "I like Led Zeppelin, but I don't like references to Zeppelins on their album covers." "I like Afro-Cuban music, but I just wish it didn't make so many references to Africa or Cuba." "I like forests. I just wish they didn't have so many trees in them." "I like the military. I just wish they didn't go around killing people."
@g.danielbugel-shunra65746 жыл бұрын
@@JackDzik The klezmer referenes are beautiful. The references to Jewish suicide missions, fundamentalism, zealotry and fanaticism not so. Moreover, since these names have nothing whatsoever to with the culture that produced klezmer music, they mostly attest how disconnected Zorn is from his identity, how understandable his search for it, and how misguided the results. (Except if it is just a selling point after all, as some cynics say).
