@monopoly549625 күн бұрын
I mean, it was just one guy who was being a total douche and spread the fake news. And that's all it takes, one guy with responsibility to abuse his position. The head of safety was the guy screaming at them to slow down and he then proceeded to tell the others they were "bombing" down the mountain and "not slowing down", for whatever reason. As someone who's been skiing all life (my parents put me on skis at the age of 3 I believe) I usually go extremely fast, because it's just a lot of fun to speed past beginners at 50mph. And I admit, it's not very nice and I've had people in shock because of my actions.. But spraying whole ski groups / courses with snow when you come to a stop from those speeds is just too good of a feeling and only once was someone genuinely mad. Most people here in Europe take it very lightly. Anyway, I am not the only one who does this regularly. Where I ski, we have a lot of professionals and groups of racers which can reach speeds of over 60mph when going from a black run down to red / blue and it's a normal sight to see them full sending it down a beginner's run to get to their lifts. So there is no "speed limit" or anything and I find the thought of this absurd. I live in Germany and every season I go to ski in the Alps. We don't even have ski patrol here or whatever the people with the yellow people think they are.. Ski cops? Of course everyone looks out for each other and generally people are very chill. The only very dangerous thing is that many of us (but mostly Austrians who ski for every single day of the season because they live right next to the mountains) get pretty drunk before skiing. I have met so many people on the lifts, who seem to be blackout drunk. These guys are the real danger to the beginners because if they ride like they do normally, which is mostly the case (they are usually very experienced), they go pretty fast and sometimes it's hard to stop when you're so drugged. They are responsible for a bunch of accidents every season but usually they only (severely) hurt themselves. Trees are their biggest enemy. To wrap this book up: I believe full sending it is pretty normal at the Alps. The place where people mainly rent their equipment even (to determine how easy the skis disconnect from the shoes when a crash occurs) describes the most experienced tier (tier 3) as "aggressive, high speed riders". The US is, once again, a land of the dumb rules. Thanks for reading :)

I used to ski _Keystone Resort_ back in the 1990's! This was a safety patrol power trip! Immediately asking for your passes kills the conversation, so that you can't tell your side of the story and defend yourself. The girl safety patrol immediately starts playing the victim by saying one of you "flipped her off" and that you all were "yelling" at her. That's ridiculous! I would've been furious! I think they just wanted to make an example of you guys, or they targeted the wrong snowboarders. I used to ski _Keystone Resort_ when _Whistle Punk_ (black diamond) still existed! It was a very narrow, steep trail, which was sadly removed, because too many people got hurt hitting the trees, I think. This was back in the 1990's! I guess you can't "bomb" _Schoolmarm,_ these days. That's sad! Great channel! I like it! You all were just fine! You are great snowboarders! 👍

I ski at keystone and I called them to express my concerns about this! I took notes of my conversation and below are the notes I took with the questions I asked and answers I got back. Q: How fast is someone allowed to go down schoolmarm while still being considered safe? A: Its subjective, it is determined by the flow of traffic, how many people are there, time of day, etc. Q: If I’m going down Schoolmarm and Mountain Safety thinks I’m going too fast, what should they do? A: Mountain Safety should educate the skier/snowboarder. They should talk with them about it. Q: Are they able to make the skier go to a school without talking to them about it first? A: No, they must have a conversation first. Q: We established in the first question that safe is subjective. This could lead to a mistake in judgement. What process is in place if mountain safety makes a mistake? A: If someone gets in a situation where they are not happy with mountain safety’s actions they can reach out to me (mountain safety patrol main office manager @ 970 496 3101) they can talk with us about the interaction and we will review ad investigate the situation. You can call them too! One way to express a concern could sound like this: I ski here and someone I associate with was treated unfair while skiing here. I want to know if you think this is okay because I want to avoid being treated unfair. I can see myself being caught up in the same unfortunate situation where I am treated unfair because I ski the same way. I feel like I’m at risk of unfair treatment because of the actions keystone mountain safety have taken. If you want to review the video, I can email you the link.

First off - this is pretty insane to watch and makes my blood boil. Second - I love Keystone and won't stop skiing there because of an isolated incident - not saying I've never had issues with ski patrol, but it seems like this was an extreme situation that I would assume is not the norm. I dunno - I could be totally wrong, but I've skied Keystone since I was like 5 or 6 years old (I'm 27 now) and while I have been told to slow down - I've never been stopped, and I ski FAST. I can get top to bottom of Schoolmarm stupid fast and no one has stopped me. As a skier - I do think snowboarders are targeted more than necessary. I've had my fair share of moments that boarders have pissed me off - but I've been plowed by skiers just as much as boarders. Anyways... you have pretty sweet videos - even though I'm not a boarder - its still super cool to watch.

That is funny, bc I don't care for most skiers. Since most think they are better or more deserving than snowboarders, Such hypocrites. I see skiers doing ALL the same things that they complain about snowboarders doing!
@ollie40223 жыл бұрын
@@adkrider33 Ahhh I don’t know if that’s true. Everyone cuts everyone up, at least in Europe. It’s a free for all and there’s no policing. You get guys heading down the slope at 100mph and some show-ploughing at 30. Crazy stuff.

It’s the first time skiers going 30 that hurt people.

This is so true. When I was a beginner in ski school I lost control and crashed 5 people

Can confirm. As a beginner snowboarder, when I lose control I eat shit immediately. Don't have time to find people to run into :P

Yep. Had an older beginner rider slam into me from behind and knock me off the trail into some deep snow. He didn't even try to help me back up out of the bank.

We got clocked in t-shirts at 73-75 mph a few years before the yellow jackets began. Right there. They’re way overdoing the safety thing. And from what I saw, they usually get the wrong people. The chick on her phone the whole time says it all, really.

lmao imagine having speed limits on a mountain I've never seen something like this in a European resort. Slow areas are more of a trust thing. Big slow sign, the resort staff just trust you to slow down.
@SoundsLikeFelix4 жыл бұрын
yes, stuff like this doesn't happen in europe (except maybe for italy, where the gendarmerie (carabinieri) polices the slopes). i remember hearing the german eurosport commenters talking about an incident like this, during the 2015 alpine ski world championships in vail/beaver creek. on their day off they went skiing themselves and a chair lift operator stopped the lift after they had already gotten in, because according to him they (longtime experienced skiers) had gotten in "wrong". he basically held them and everybody else on the lift hostage for several minutes, while he was giving a lecture on how to get on a chair lift correctly. the commenters' take home message was that they enjoy a lot more freedom in europe than in america, where everybody just loves to talk about freedom.

@@SoundsLikeFelix I've never seen something like this in Italy, but maybe it varies resort to resort. i can say for sure that Pila in Aosta Valley doesn't have it.
@SoundsLikeFelix4 жыл бұрын
@@SeriouslyMikey the ski-carabinieri were introduced in 2003. since then i have seen them both in val gardena and val di fassa. they can fine you for "dangerous riding" without any tangible criteria, just based on their personal judgement. to be fair, i never had a bad experience with them or even heard of one. i just don't like the idea of having a paramilitary police force on the slopes, seems too authoritarian to me.

Yes but Vail will charge $75 per person to take the Safety class. Ski Patrol make a 20% commission on that

Maybe ppl are generally more respectful in Europe. There are skiers and snowboarders who are reckless endangering other ppl. I got mowed down like a snowplow on River Run at Keystone. A new snowboarder who had no business on a blue. A couple snowboarders flew out of the trees and one took me out on a green run back to the lift. I had a beautiful black eye after that. TG I was wearing a helmet and goggles. We gotta put others' safety ahead of our own personal fun. These guys seemed respectful tho

Dang dude, im an instructor at a vail resort and this looks totally fine. You guys stayed to the side and pretty slow speed and if i had a class there i wouldn't have a problem. I had a similar situation at snowbird where a black goes across a green and i got stopped going fast on the black section

yeah it happens at snowbird with some of the more stuck up ski patrol especially if ur a snowboarder cuz its fairly new for boarders at that resort

Same thing happened to me in December and I have it on footage as well. They told me to take the class as well and I refused and brought my footage to the highest person at vail resorts cause they own keystone and they apologized and said they are working on things with the “yellow jackets”

Send this to media, man. I've already seen a couple of Denver stations pick up the original story, as well as SnowBrains and Unofficial Networks. Make sure this video gets out there so you and your squad's names are clear. I'll definitely share where I can. This is messed up and I hope this all works out.

Thanks for posting this. taking Keystone off my list. I dont go up very often so im not looking for these kinds of interactions. you were clearly riding safely and aware of your surroundings. the way they accused you of all these things, and then back peddling saying it was called in from above shows some unfortunate unprofessionalism. also, mountain safety should have their eyes on the mountain. not in their phone. if they are communicating with other mountain employees it should be on a radio. zero reason for her to be derelicting her job and being on her phone. gross.
