Ehh, I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but onesies are actually really cool. My dad grew up skiing with one, and as a kid I also wore one too. They keep you a bit warmer when riding as there are no openings between the jacket & pants, which tends to prevent more cold from getting inside your layers. I've been in Steamboat, co for 20 yrs and I was always impressed by the integrity of Skiers/riders not stealing others gear. We leave our gear out overnight sometimes. However, after watching this, I realize it's not a skier/rider thing as much as it is a Location thing! Also spraying, I never knew that was intentional. Once again, me overestimating the character of riders, but now that I know it is, I will chase them down the mountain and show them my spotty character as well!
@erikl77142 ай бұрын
my take is that as long as what someone is doing does not adversely mentally, physically, and/or financially affect others, what they do on the slopes is their business, and if we get annoyed by what they do, the problem is us, and not the people we find annoying. basically if someone wants to wear a onesie with a turtle butt cushion and do snowbro talk, that's none of our business. if we don't agree with what they're doing, we have the choice to just ignore them and more on with our riding. insisting that others stop doing something that we don't like or agree with is being a hater in itself.

I agree with pretty much everything here, but I HARD DISAGREE on the colorful clothes and onesies. For someone who preaches about gatekeeping being a problem, you are unironically engaging in gatekeeping. Who cares what people are wearing on the slope? They aren't affecting you or being rude or anything (excpet the speaker guy. Please stop and wear headphones.) Skiing and snowboarding is all about having FUN and expressing yourself! Where else in daily life can we get away with wearing crazy colors and onesies? Not very many places. Maybe a party with a theme? But let's be honest, who is going to parties all the time? Most of us work and go home to take care of our families. The mountain is the ONE PLACE where we can feel like a kid again, and there shouldn't be anything wrong with that! Yes we ARE adults, but on the mountain we want to forget that for a day and just be a kid! I personally love all the crazy patterns and colors that people wear, as well as the onesies and helmet decorations. That fact that the fun colors and patterns are becoming less common makes me sad. You can usually get a good read on someone's personality by what they are wearing. Every time you talk to one of these people they are usually really funny and interesting to talk to, and sometimes you can make a new friend because their outfit sparked a conversation. Johnathan, you personally might find it cringe, but that's kinda the point lol. EMBRACE THE CRINGE. TO LIVE IS TO BE CRINGE! TO BE CRINGE IS TO BE HUMAN ❤
@colonelsanders36742 ай бұрын
Agree with most of this, but gotta disagree on the onesies and turtle-butt. Back in the 2000's skiing was basically "how ridiculous and whacky can I look." Skis and boards too had incredible artwork on them (many still do, but less so). I loved that style. You were encouraged to look weird and funny. Nowadays I look at gear and everything is just one color with minimalistic design/artwork. Where did the fun go? That's why, when I see people in something unique like onesies or turtle-butts or a gorilla suit I make sure to tell them how cool it is.
@Sqwivig9 күн бұрын
HARD AGREE!! Skiing and Snowboarding is all about having fun and expressing yourself! I have noticed that coats, snow pants, gloves and helmets have all become BORING! Grey, tan, brown and black seem to be the only colors available these days and it makes me really sad. I loved seeing all the fun colors and designs that people would wear and you could usually get a good read on their personality by what they are wearing. I always make sure to talk to the people who wear onesies and fun helmet decorations because they always have something funny to say or are interesting people to talk to. Also, WHO CARES what you are wearing!? It's kind of an elitist mindset and it's toxic. If you wanna wear mute colors then all the power to you. If you wanna wear something colorful or goofy, then all the power to you! Let's stop judging people by what they wear and instead judge them by their mountain etiquette.

Nah man. Most of these you’re coming off as pretentious and judgy. “This is lame, that’s lame” We’re out here having fun wearing monkey suits, shredding the pow, jammin tunes all with turtle butts and having a blast.

Wear what you want, all of that I have no issue with, but backpack speaker kids are the worst lol. Granted I think I’ve only seen one in my life, you’re just forcing people to hear your garbage music taste. Use headphones dawg?

1: when the first snowboard was forged in the great fire, an amber vial of the most potent heckling known to man fell into the crucible. 2: speaker guy is having fun and that's what it's about. 3: when the onesies get out of hand, it's time to go off pissed.

Spot on, We had some drunk guys yelling Brown Bear at us from the lift, probably trying to make us distracted and fall. No bear anywhere. Don't be that guy.

The stealing gear is bs last year a kid was running around looking for his board balling cause he got his board stolen and after about 20 min I felt so bad I went and put my old bindings on my spare board and just gave it to kid people today can be horrible but you can always do something to brighten up someone’s day

if people are camping in the middle of a blue/black theyre getting sprayed (go to the edge to chill) and if theyre having a tough time they shouldnt be on those runs at all lol im not messing with ppl on greens though, thats different.

Backpack guy with good tunes makes icy days way better-like 10x. it’s rare, and music taste is def subjective, but I’d take backpack guy any day over someone with AirPods in swerving into the way of kids learning

gotta love the people who are having fun, I dont mind speakers, getting sprayed, or any of it, could be because i dont see many folks on the skin tracks. Now dont get me started on granola trends.

1:00 this one is so real. The amount of times I get sprayed by some random annoying teenagers that are just a few years older than me is crazy.

Ok,on the funny side. When I first started, I was sweating so bad that a snow spray would have been great. I agree though!!! Just spray the ones in your crew!!! 😂

I actually love the turtles, one of my first days snowboarding a girl and her friend showed up and put rainbow turtles on their knees, we had a good laugh. I think that they are definitely a style choice, not everyone wants to use them. I personally use kneepads, but I think the turtles are super cute.

I agree the backpack music guy is very frustrating when you are enjoying a lap in park and he comes through with his music you just don't wont to hear When you trying to learn a new trick or are in the flow having fun.

I’d say one of the absolute worst trends would be to tell yourself and others you’re pro. I hate that

Yep slapping on the snowboard talk for 3 months of the year is dumb. But if it is a North Coast Hawaiian Surfer crossing over to snowboarding and it's authentic, and that's his/her true personality, I'm gonna be their best friend on the hill. That would be way too much fun to be around and watch. Authenticity is key.

How do you go from saying “snowboarding is for everyone” to crapping on people for what they wear to have fun? Not cool bro.
