thanks for your honest review. i was searching for any negative reviews on these when i was looking to purchase a set for this season but didn't find any, so i bought a set. had this review been out then, i wouldn't have bought it. that said, i did buy a set and have rode 15 days on them season so far. being 47 years old, i do love the convenience of step in (i have Flow in the past). ive only been ridding for 4 years (many years on ski before that), i'd say im and intermediate rider, i dont ride park but i do some straight air. i don't ever intend to walk around with high back on, i think thats dumb. the toe strap does flop down fairly easy, epically if you stomp your board in lift line. i usually just reach down and pull them up while on lift and they are ready when i get off the lift. i made adjustment to high back on the first day and haven't touch it since, i always have a pocket tool in my coat (my friends use the tool for their bindings more than i ever have). the binding did pop out one time during a carve, and i always make sure it's double click before i head down the mountain. i think their might have been ice or snow in the locking mechanism, so even though it sounded like it click, it wasn't seated completely. since i already have them, i'll keep them for the rest of the season. i will take your advice and replace all the hardware tho, probably from my Burton Mission, lol

@theheck12310 ай бұрын
@@Ryy22 just the 4 screws for the disk. The screws for the strap seems fine, I would think the strap would break before the screws will, but you can replace them with toolless crews if you adjust them often. All the other hardware on the binding seems proprietary, so I won't mess with them.

First of all, thank you for an honest takedown on Clew while I was planning to change a really old Burton binding with the new Clew, which I received 2 months ago. It is not sarcastic. Your criticism is good for the public, but not so good for an old dude like me, at 63 now, older than the other guy possibly. But I bought the Clew for the same reason that the in and out will be easier after all the sitting and pushing myself up before boarding for 20-some years. So I’ll have to rewatch the segment about the screws. Anyhow, I think the binding is not returnable after I've received it for two months. At least it costs me $100 less for the preorder. It looks intentional tho because the curve only goes in one direction, is very uniform/even and is not present on top of the disk. I own one. Rode it for 7 days. The highback is 3cm shorter than other bindings, so for us bigger guys, it's too small. Also in real conditions, on the snow, it doesn't click in every time. Many times I had to do pretty good workout to be able to step in. It would be quicker to step in with regular bindings. And I bought them only for this reason.
@RawRides4UАй бұрын
I owned 3 different types of bindings. Regular straps, step ons by Burton which I recently sold, and Clew. I am currently using only the Clew bindings for 2 seasons and about to start the 3rd one, and they are just fine. I don't feel or have any of the problems that are mentioned in this video. Maybe I was just lucky so far. I did meet 1 guy on the slopes that told me he had 1 issue with a strap and that Clew sent him a replacement part for free. It just took a long time to get it cause they're in Europe. I love the fact that I can just slide my leg in right off the lift without the need to stop. The Clew do work for me. I sold the Burton step ons not because I didn't like them. I actually love them better than Clew. But Burtons boots are just too narrow for my feet and I was very uncomfortable. Even with their wide boot it was too tight for me. And apparently it's an issue with their boots, as I met a short girl with foot size 7 that also complained about how narrow Burton boots are. And a sales person from a ski shop that told me it's a known issue for them. Bottom line and after using all 3 different ones, I think that it doesn't matter what bindings you have if they work. I honestly don't think that $400-500 step in bindings make any difference then the $100 regular straps.

Intermediate rider here with less than 10 days in them: I agree with the low quality material throughout these bindings. And they are heavier than a traditional binding setup. However, I have I have not lost any parts and minimal adjustments since the second day on them. It is also better to fully unstrap if you are trying your strap up in deep powder. The clip will not set with snow packed in. Other than those cons, personally, I’m not very flexible so I save time and energy, which allows for more runs in a day. I still pack my trad bindings in case there is a failure. Still enjoying them for now.

1. How did the stirrup preform on the dance floor at Celia’s at midnight? (Where the real users are gonna need that performance) 2. How does this pair with a Gilson board? (Asking for a friend)

I've left them in my will and testament to your second born. They will know the shame of wearing these.

I would have stopped to say hi at Copper, but after seeing the hibacks on your feet, I couldn't stop laughing. The shit you go through for us is incredible! Thanks for taking one for the team Avran!

Do they make these in yellow? I really want to colour match my Skate Banana and Dope all-in-one.

To summarize: If a product spends more budget on advertisement rather than quality, there is a 90% chance that it ends up being shit.

Maybe Avran will like them. From now on every snowboard review will have the words. I rode this with my K2 Thraxis boots and my Clew freedom 1.0 bindings 👌🏻

thank you for this. I was also wondering why there was nothing but positive reviews and was looking hard for a thorough, honest review.

I had the 1st version, which on one side was latched with 2 hooks and on the second with 1, I had to do an ollie to fasten them by force. Thanks to marketing, I sold them in 1 day on a local message board. And the same problem with the front strap as in the video

funny that this vid popped up for me. I've been riding the clews for a couple weeks now and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. At 46 years old I decided I was done with strapping in. I've used the supermatics, step ons, and Clew. I resold the supermatics and I'm about to see how much I can get back for the clews. Step ons will be by go-to. I won't bother with an explanation as to why I didn't like the clew. Angry covered it well. I'll never online shop after a three drink night ever again. The price of the clew is outrageous.
@vincentkr3w10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the insight. Was there anything in particular about the Supermatics that made you sell them? Or did you just like the step-on system more than the others?

I was really hoping to see some Randy cameos cruising the resort with his backpack speaker on and then hitting the town with the Clews still on, maybe next time.
@AngrySnowboarder10 ай бұрын
Randy does not use a backpack speaker, he just has a bullhorn and sings Abba's greatest hits.
