@crice1uk9 ай бұрын
I bought these bindings because I have a very stiff lower back and can barely reach my toes. I am a design engineer and have worked for many automotive, aerospace and defence companies. The first thing I noticed when I installed the bindings is not so much the quality of the supplied hardware but the lack of thead engagement in the inserts of the board - the screws are too short. A good rule of thumb is you want 1D of thread engagement in steel and 1.5D in aluminium. That is 1x the diameter of the screw. So, on an M6 screw that should be 6 turns. The supplied hardware went into my board about 3 turns. I bought M6 x 18mm CSK screws in A4-70 and they went into my board 4.5 turns (check with no binding on your board how many turns you can get a screw in before it bottoms out - I had about 1 turn to spare so all good). I also used blue loctite on the threads not so much to prevent them backing out but to try and prevent risk of galling or galvanic corrosion of the inserts. If you use zinc plated and passivated screws you shouldn't need to worry about this. So I would say the breaking screws/inserts is more to do with the engagement than the quality. I have just ridden the bindings on a Batalion Goliath for 5 days in La Plagne. I am an intermediate snowboarder and came from a pair of Flux bingings I've had for a few years. Overall I liked the Clew and won't be sending them back. I didn't find many areas where I felt they were inferior to the Flux and the speed and ease of clicking in is great and not sitting on your arse faffing with straps at the top of each run is great. My only criticisms are I did feel a bit more pressure across my ankles after a couple of days riding then I have noticed before and there were a couple of occasions towards the end of the week where the binding didn't engage the second ratchet on the right side of the rear foot (regular) without some rocking of the high back. I think this is because of the stop for the high back hitting the rear of the binding before fully engaged so maybe bending your knees a bit as you step in helps. I do have concerns over the longevity of the engagement faces as one is already showing a bit of wear but for the amount of riding I do (only really one winter holiday a year) I'm not overly worried. I think some of the points raised in this vid are valid, if a little overstate. Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchase and think the concept is pretty good.

Intermediate rider here with less than 10 days in them: I agree with the low quality material throughout these bindings. And they are heavier than a traditional binding setup. However, I have I have not lost any parts and minimal adjustments since the second day on them. It is also better to fully unstrap if you are trying your strap up in deep powder. The clip will not set with snow packed in. Other than those cons, personally, I’m not very flexible so I save time and energy, which allows for more runs in a day. I still pack my trad bindings in case there is a failure. Still enjoying them for now.

To be honest, I've used StepOn, Nidecker Supermatic, and Clew bindings. I experienced pain points with the StepOn bindings (probably due to the StepOn boots), and I find Nidecker super hard to step into, in my opinion. thanks for your honest review. i was searching for any negative reviews on these when i was looking to purchase a set for this season but didn't find any, so i bought a set. had this review been out then, i wouldn't have bought it. that said, i did buy a set and have rode 15 days on them season so far. being 47 years old, i do love the convenience of step in (i have Flow in the past). ive only been ridding for 4 years (many years on ski before that), i'd say im and intermediate rider, i dont ride park but i do some straight air. i don't ever intend to walk around with high back on, i think thats dumb. the toe strap does flop down fairly easy, epically if you stomp your board in lift line. i usually just reach down and pull them up while on lift and they are ready when i get off the lift. i made adjustment to high back on the first day and haven't touch it since, i always have a pocket tool in my coat (my friends use the tool for their bindings more than i ever have). the binding did pop out one time during a carve, and i always make sure it's double click before i head down the mountain. i think their might have been ice or snow in the locking mechanism, so even though it sounded like it click, it wasn't seated completely. since i already have them, i'll keep them for the rest of the season. i will take your advice and replace all the hardware tho, probably from my Burton Mission, lol

I feel bad for your kid. Tell him to not follow posers pushing crap products.

Can’t wait to see how angry he will get on the clew for the crew engineers that have no clue 😂

I would have stopped to say hi at Copper, but after seeing the hibacks on your feet, I couldn't stop laughing. The shit you go through for us is incredible! Thanks for taking one for the team Avran!

The only time I've seen these on my local so far the person was head to toe covered in influenza marketing campaign gear. Turtles✅Dope/Montec✅Clews✅Gilson✅Backpack/bluetooth speaker ✅ the had a go pro and the only footy the probably got was them falling unloading from the lift since they where still sitting there on my 3rd pad on the run

I wish you got their handle. Sounds like comedy gold

Nice to see a more in depth review on these from design/manufacture/materials rather than just the freedom of them

Finally a real fucking Clew review. All the KZbinrs who praise this binding just lost my respect for faking

Im glad you came thru in this review.

Finally I found this KZbinr spoke the truths. I owned this bindings last season . It was crap. I’m glad I got a refund and now I switch to nidecker supermatic

I was really hoping to see some Randy cameos cruising the resort with his backpack speaker on and then hitting the town with the Clews still on, maybe next time.
@AngrySnowboarder9 ай бұрын
Randy does not use a backpack speaker, he just has a bullhorn and sings Abba's greatest hits.

I bought a pair this year (after watching them for the past 2 years) with the intent of using them for snowkiting and rapid laps at my 250' local hill. Im 50 years old, 5th season snowboarding, all-mountain blue/black cruiser/charger (no park, minimal jumping). Using them has been awesome at my local midwestern hills. I do have to adjust the toe strap every time, but it's still MUCH easier and faster than typical strap in. I give a little hop after i clock in and have yet to fail to click in. I went to Colorado last week and used typical strap ins to avoid any potential issues under more demanding conditions and I really was missing the ease of entry after riding hard, at altitude for multiple days. Ive only used them once so far for snowkiting but they worked as hoped and allowed me to easily launch kite without sitting (in powder). I also crashed in deep powder (flat) and was able to easily eject from my board, straighten myself out and get going again. I also use a dedicated board for snowkiting so the second baseplate works great for switching between different boards and can be rationalized to offset the high cost of the first set. Worst part about them is that i like to be low-key and people want to look, comment, ask, sneer and jeer. I think your criticisms are all valid and i hope Clew considers all of your critical feedback for what i hope will be a 2.0. I plan to update hardware and pick up some spare parts per your suggestion and ride them as hard as i can. Hope they hold up!

Bro is fluent in YAPANESE 💀🚬💨💀🚬💨 Ain’t nobody reading all that. If you gotta write a whole essay to justify a shitty product then just get supermatics.
@randyfaasuamalie58429 ай бұрын
My riding partner has supermatics and they came loose on the lift while wiping snow!

I read it. Thanks for taking away that you need to upgrade the hardware. At least you’re down to earth and understand
