Step 1) Have a lead producer who understands the source material and the business. Ideally someone with a vision for this franchise. Step 2) Hire good writers and directors. Step 3) Keep the budgets reasonable. Step 4) Profit. Make good films and people are more likely to watch and support them. Popular films make more money, which means sequels. Which means a lot greater profit potential. For an experienced movie studio which has made plenty of great movies, including Spiderman, this should be very fucking obvious.

John has been right this whole time: Venom’s success was a big problem. It never was very good & succeeded on the back of a weird & engaging lead performance. But it never made much sense. Venom looks the way he does BECAUSE he bonded with Spiderman. I’m sure it’s been fleshed out in comics. Either way, it was weird and didn’t work other than being kind of fun. Nothing else has come close to that success. Including Venom 2. Generally, it’s like the Batman universe: what’s the deal with ALL these shows and movies WITHOUT the central character?!?

Sony can improve their Spider-Verse by focusing on strong storytelling, character development, and maintaining consistency within the universe. They should collaborate closely with talented writers, directors, and producers to ensure that each film feels connected yet distinct. Additionally, they could explore new and diverse storylines, introduce compelling villains, and prioritize the quality of animation or special effects to enhance the overall viewing experience. Engaging with audience feedback and staying true to the essence of Spider-Man while taking creative risks could also help revitalize the franchise.

Lastly they should just make their sinister 6 after the multiverse saga, where in instead of making movies out of those characters, they just need to make those sinister six from the multiverse that was already fought by other version of spideys and let say put them in one universe and give them a reason to hunt down the peter parker spidey.

Hot take: The way to fix Sony's Live Action Spider-Verse would be not putting out Madame Web right now. They should have went the route of "Evil Avengers" by doing solo movies of each Sinister Six member. You could have Vulture bring them all together to take on Spider-Man in a Sinister Six movie. You could have Spider-Man on the brink of losing the battle with them all when he's saved by Madame Web. That's when you get solo movies of Spider-People with Madame Web being their Nick Fury, collecting them all for the fight. That could cover quite a few movies. The one before the Sinister Six vs Spider Society could be a Madame Web solo movie. Sony, just hire me already. I got y'all.

Yes, adapting comic book story arcs for the big screen isn't automatically going to save the Spider-verse but I do think it would help give the film a good foundation. I still believe that instead of Madame Web standalone movie, they would be better off adapting a Spider-man storyline that Madame Web has pivotal role in, such as Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut. I'm not even against Dakota Johnson playing Madame Web, just age her up in prosthetic make up and allow her to show some acting range. Of course, you need to right directors, writers, and production team to make it all work, but you need to story that they are passionate about and biggest complaint about Madame Web was it was a film that was passion-less and uninspired.

I don't know how viable this is now that the Madam Web movie has done them dirty, but I think the obvious solution was to anchor their whole universe on someone else who isn't Spider-Man. Okay, so they don't seem to be able to have Tom Holland in their movies or have another Spider-Man in their movies at the same time as Tom's Spidey is in the MCU. Probably some deal shenanigans with Disney/Marvel. Fine. But then have some other character be the linchpin. Make one of the Spider-Women the main character for your little universe of spider-villains and have them all be her villains, or at least be centered around her in whichever way you choose if you want to have Venom as an anti-hero. I don't know if there is any potential Spider-Woman left that wasn't already in Madam Web, but if there is, I would make a very serious effort to craft an amazing film centered around her. Make her be whatever it seemed that they've been waiting for Tom Holland's Spidey to be (with absolutely no success). Their universe desperately needs someone like that. Every movie they put out feels so weird without someone like that, and every attempt to form a cohesive universe even more so. Even if they had had hit after hit and both Morbius and Madam Web had been great, and Kraven comes out and is great as well...there's just a piece missing. Why would I care about a potential Sinister Six (or whatever they're building up towards) forming when there's no one for them to fight? Even if I really like all of the villains that they've made movies about, there's no one for them to team up against. That has always been the central flaw of Sony's plan. Hopefully they can fix it but right now, it seems like all of their successes have been flukes. They've sort of accidentally hired the right people and let them do their thing without getting too much in the way to screw things up. I will say, however... I'm very curious what the Spider-Verse guys could do if they were put in charge of Sony's live-action efforts. Sort of like their Kevin Feiges.

It’s sad that anybody should even have to point out, the best way to solve Sony’s Spider-man adjacent problem is “hey, just hire people who care”. Like these people have watched movies before right? Not saying making a good movie is easy, but a lot of the problems in Madam Webb were avoidable, just sayin.

I was actually hoping that it was gonna start a Dark Universe.

That movie was garbage and only ezisted to get to the last scene trying (and failing) to set up sequels and a cinematic universe.

I agree with everything you said, however maybe we all need to follow our own advices or stop giving advices

They need Spiderman. The Spiderverse is pointless and these B tier characters are pointless without Spiderman. Who will we be getting next with no Spiderman....Lizard?

I think fundamentally Sony is struggling to choose the right characters to make protagonists, other than Venom, none of them really make sense. Madame Web, in my limited experience of her character, is supposed to be a mysterious character who plans things out in the shadows and leaves you speculating. You wouldn't make Morpheus the protagonist in the matrix, you wouldn't make Varys or Littlefinger the protagonists in GOT because they know too much, this just leaves the movie feeling nothing like the character because they have to work around that aspect. Kraven is a clear cut villain, not an anti-hero and he doesn't have powers, he's a brutal competent hunter. This doesn't really work as a main character as it's not very sympathetic so now he's some environmentalist anti-hero with lion blood. It doesn't work, it doesn't respect what makes Kraven cool. A villain origin story can work though, we've seen the Joker, they just seem unwilling to actually commit to making him a villain. Similarly with Morbius, he's a villain. Ignoring that nobody really knows who Morbius, a vampire movie could work, they obviously have in the past, but they should have made it pure horror and not about rare blood diseases or whatever the fuck that movie was. The fact they ever even considered El Muerto a viable lead for a movie when he's appeared in 2 comics ever just lays bare how poor their decision-making has been. Now we have Hypno-Hustler and Jackpot in the works, seriously who even are these characters? Plus apparetly a Sinister Six movie... with no Spider-Man, it's ridiculous. All of this while we haven't seen Miles Morales, Black Cat, 2099, Spider-Gwen, Silk, Noir or Superior Foes in live-action. A Black Cat movie could easily work, she's a relatively well known villain and all they'd have to do is make a heist movie, it should be a no-brainer for Spider-Man villains to give a solo project. Miles has been something fans have wanted in live-action for over a decade now, what's stopping them? At this point I'm glad they aren't adapting these characters because I just don't trust they'll give them the treatment they deserve with the sheer lack of creativity involved in what they're making.
