i see, theres this certain moment where it is impossible to dodge, enemy's attack is so fast that bayo's regular witch time could not catch it... so all i have to do is abuse pressing the evade button? whoaw. im pretty sure it does work while picking angel wrapons too

I’m no big theory crafter but I’ll try my best. There are a couple moves that, when performed, you cannot cancel with dodge. There is no dodge-offsetting it or anything like that. Once you press one of these moves, you have to complete the animation. That is unless you proc bat within. Bat within works no matter what move you’re using. For example, as Bayonetta (not Jeanne), if you spam the dodge button, you’ll do a big leap and then lay on the ground. This is a mechanic designed by the devs to prevent dodge spamming. If you jeep pressing the dodge button, Bayonetta will still lay on the ground, completely vulnerable to enemy attacks. However, if you have bat within, bat within still works. Even though you should not be able to dodge, you can still proc bat within, thus enabling you to dodge the attack regardless. So, what the video is showing you is a way to abuse this mechanic to get bat within every time you want to, by first using a move that you can’t dodge out of and then spamming the dodge button to get bat within.

I honestly think the bats within is the worst mechanic in the game. It’s caused me so much strife and frustration when playing Jeanne. I’ve screamed at my tv, scared my dog and almost destroyed my controller from how far I’ve thrown it because of this annoying ass mechanic. Especially in trials where I need to use witch time. And that’s because the damn thing is inconsistent when it comes to what determines a successful dodge. An enemy has hit me, I see the rose, I press dodge and more times that not it doesn’t register as a dodge and I get damaged anyway without knowing what I did wrong. I’m just left bewildered, confused and very… *very* annoyed. So anyone talking about how I’ll “get used to it eventually” or how I’ll need to practice with it don’t know wtf they’re talking about and need to stop talking.
