All because she fails to see that he is a grown capable college-attending adult man who committed a crime, not an incapable little boy who accidentally did something "bad". It is insane, we all know prison isn't a place of rehabilitation and will only serve to make him worse if anything. Why do we think that will fix the problem? Glad that Dr. John noted that likely more texts and exchanges occurred than the mother is letting on. The good news is that her son's jail time will allow him to really rethink how he best wants to live his life. Hopefully he chooses to be an honorable man and a godly man going forward. Not someone involved in sex chats and child pornography.

"Godly" men of the book (Christians, Muslims, and Jews) have a penchant for abusing children as well. I do agree with everything else you said though. However, her son may have The Dark Triad or The Dark Tetrad traits in addition to having pedophilic tendencies. If so, that can't be changed.

She's not taking any responsibility or holding her son accountable. There's nothing she can do to help him. She's incapable of seeing him as a grown adult that is participating in child abuse. The only innocents involved are these poor children, NOT her son. Her snickering and nonchalance is disturbing. Autism doesn't make you a child predator. She's just making excuses.

What I wanna know as an 18 year old man myself is if this kid is in full sound mind…do they not understand that it’s not right mentally to be attracted to things like that? Why not seek out therapy and just be honest? This kid could take accountability and shut it down before it escalated like this. I never get those CP cases. @@hexmask6587 Very true - understand in this case (you can view the court documents/affidavit materials in the federal court website to understand the whole investigation), her son Ethan actually downloaded Kik and used it as a way to find others interested in this material, to make friends with others interested in this material, and engage in discussions about the underlying acts, his friend Sergio was arrested and allowed the FBI to use his account to offer Ethan more of this material and Ethan paid for the material and then proceeded to download 30 files of this material. I'm so glad John pointed out there are abused, hurt children in this- it makes ZERO difference between "just looking" and being there, directly involved in person doing the physical act to the child - every adult involved, "just looking" or otherwise has blood on their hands, destroying that child's life for the rest of their lives, all the while those images remain 'out there' FOREVER

This is repulsive. I’m a mother of 9 (and I’d die for any of my kids) and if one of my children did something to this degree I would be the one calling the police on them. There would be zero grace for this. There is NO LOVE in enabling someone you love to get away with this level of evil.

The thing about kitty porn is that the rules are not necessarily cut and dried. An 18-year-old high school senior could be charged because he has photos of his 16- or 17-year-old girlfriend on his cell phone. I know of a 20 yo whose 16-17 yo girlfriend sent him two pics. Naturally her dad was upset and pushed prosecution (as would I) but he got ten years per photo. Seems excessive when she sent the photos. He got out after five years but the girl kept following him and, even though he complained about her, they sent him back. There are men who have completed their sentences but can’t leave prison because the government doesn’t approve their living situation. That doesn’t seem very American to me. When you’ve completed your sentence, you should be free. This should not be legal. If you want criminals to stay in prison, give them longer sentences. It’s not all the same. The crimes are not all the same.

This mom’s in denial of the fact that her son is a predator. You don’t accidentally get sent child pornography. My brother is a detective here in Michigan, he’s told me that they don’t even go after people for this unless they have massive amounts of it, her son didn’t have just a few pics if he’s facing prison time. Her only concern should be protecting the people that he will hurt

Unfortunately her son is a threat to society. Pedophiles are wired differently and have a sexual attraction to children. Whether they were abused as children or were born this way they are a threat. His mother needs to get help so she can cope. She can have a relationship with her son and be as supportive as she can.
